Yves “Thugjitsu Master” Edwards vs Cody “AK Kid” McKenzie

Round 1:
McKenzie rushed right in and tried for a takedown. Edwards stuffed it, but McKenzie used an ankle pick to get Edwards down very briefly. Edwards stood and backed away. He landed a nice one-two and sprawled out of a takedown. McKenzie was relentless in trying to get the fight to the mat, but Edwards stayed on his feet and landed a right hook. Edwards landed a leg kick and a one-two combination. McKenzie fell while throwing a head kick and Edwards allowed him to stand, then punished him with a right hook to the body.

Edwards stuffed another takedown and McKenzie threw a second head kick. Edwards responded with a knee and followed with punches and a leg kick. McKenzie tried to pull guard, but wound up on the bottom with Edwards in mount. McKenzie escaped out the back and secured an inverted body triangle. The fighters stood and McKenzie landed a punch-kick combo. McKenzie tripped Edwards to the mat for a second, but Edwards stood again. Good round. 10-9 Edwards.

Round 2:
Edwards landed a big combination that buckled McKenzie’s knees in the second round and he kept the pressure on with a knee and punches to the body. McKenzie answered with a hook and a spinning elbow, then a pair of knees. McKenzie took Edwards’s back and dragged him to the mat. He nearly got to mount, but settled for side-control as Edwards defended. McKenzie landed punches as Edwards tried to stand, then took Edwards’s back again.

McKenzie secured a body triangle and worked for a rear-naked choke. More punches landed for McKenzie and Edwards battled back to his feet, but McKenzie dragged him down again. Edwards wound up on top in side-control, then moved to mount. He landed punches until McKenzie rolled over and gave up his back. Edwards locked on a rear-naked choke and McKenzie tried to fight it off. He could not and went to sleep.

Winner: Yves Edwards by Technical Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 4:33 of round two. He improves to 40-16-1.

 

DaMarques “Darkness” Johnson vs Mike “Joker” Guymon

Round 1:
Guymon looked for an early takedown, but Johnson defended and scored a takedown of his own. He landed on top in side-control and landed elbows, then nearly passed straight to mount. Guymon used the opportunity to regain full guard. Johnson landed short strikes from the top and moved to mount.

More punches landed for Johnson and Guymon gave up his back. Johnson used a body triangle to prevent Guymon from escaping. Johnson rolled Guymon over and Guymon verbally submitted to what appeared to be a rib or back injury.

Winner: DaMarques Johnson by Verbal Submission (Body Triangle) at 3:22 of round one. He improves to 12-8-0.

 

Rani Yahya vs Mike Brown

Round 1:
Yahya stayed on the outside and landed kicks early on until Brown landed a looping right hook. Yahya tried for a takedown and Brown stuffed it. Brown walked Yahya down and Yahya dove for a single-leg. He got Brown down and pushed him up against the cage. Brown defended from his back as Yahya punched to the body.

Yahya tried to move to mount and locked on a guillotine choke as both fighters stood. Brown defended, but Yahya kept him pinned against the cage and tried to drag Brown to the mat. Yahya got Brown down and Brown fought back with elbows. Yahya took partial back control just before the end of the round. 10-9 Yahya.

Round 2:
As in the first round, Yahya used kicks to stay at a distance in the second stanza, but Brown pushed forward with punches. Yahya answered with looping hooks and tried to jump into a guillotine choke. Yahya managed to pull Brown to the ground as Brown defended the choke. Brown eventually managed to scramble back to his feet.

The fighters clinched against the cage, but Brown broke free. Brown landed a right hook and looked to follow with a second. Yahya clinched and Brown broke away again. Brown remained the aggressor on the feet and sprawled out of a takedown. He attempted a modified front choke before the bell. Close round. 10-9 Yahya.

Round 3:
Yahya closed the distance in the final round and tried for a takedown. He nearly got Brown down against the cage, but Brown reversed and looked briefly for a guillotine choke. Yahya wound up on top in Brown’s half-guard and tried for a Kimura on Brown’s left arm. He took Brown’s back and Brown tried to spin free. Yahya switched to a body triangle and flattened Brown out.

Yahya punished Brown with punches, then tried for a rear-naked choke. Yahya flatted Brown out again and landed punch after punch, but referee Mario Yamasaki stood the fighters up and warned Yahya for strikes to the back of the head. Brown partially defended a takedown attempt and landed punches, but Yahya reversed and ended the round on top. 10-9 Yahya.

Winner: Rani Yahya by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 16-6-0.

 

Waylon Lowe vs Willamy “Chiquerim” Freire

Round 1:
Lowe landed a one-two and rushed in for a takedown early in the fight. He quickly took Freire to the mat near the cage and landed short punches and elbows from the top. Freire stayed calm and worked for a Kimura on Lowe’s right arm as Lowe threw occasional strikes.

Freire maintained his grip on Lowe’s arm, but referee Dan Miragliotta stood the fighters up. Lowe landed a big right hand and took Freire back down again. He threw short punches to Freire’s ribs and Freire answered with elbows from the bottom. 10-9 Lowe.

Round 2:
A trio of hard punches scored for Lowe in the second round and he clinched against the cage. Freire defended and stayed on his feet as the fighters exchanged knees to the body. Lowe backed away and Freire landed a head kick. Lowe took him down, but Freire locked on a loose triangle choke. Lowe slammed his way free.

Lowe stayed on top and threw a handful of short punches as Freire elbowed from his back. Lowe moved to half-guard, but Freire looked for a Kimura and regained full guard. The fighters were stood up and Freire landed leg kicks. Lowe scored with a lunging left hook and took Freire down. Lowe remained on top until the bell. 10-9 Lowe.

Round 3:
Lowe landed a left hook early in the final round and followed with a right. Freire responded with a hard body kick and a right hand. Lowe dove in for a sloppy takedown and Freire easily defended. Another takedown attempt from Lowe failed and Freire wound up on top in mount after a scramble.

Lowe regained half-guard and held on to prevent Freire from moving. Freire managed to score with elbows as a fatigued Lowe could do little in return. Punches and elbows landed for Freire, but Lowe scrambled back to his feet. He took Freire down and Freire worked again for a Kimura on Lowe’s right arm. Lowe escaped and Freire attempted the hold a second time. This continued until the bell. 10-9 Freire.

Winner: Waylon Lowe by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 10-3-0.

 

Undercard Fights:

Charlie “The Spaniard” Brenneman defeated Amilcar Alves by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) after three rounds. He improves to 13-2-0 with the win.

Chris “Kamikaze” Cariaso defeated Will Campuzano by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 11-2-0 with the win.
