Former Jewels star Shizuka Sugiyama needed just 76 seconds to claim victory in her Deep debut tonight at Deep: “Tokyo Impact – Lightweight GP 2013 Semifinal” in Tokyo, Japan. Sugiyama dominated an overmatched Chisa Yonezawa en route to a quick and impressive TKO stoppage.

Sugiyama opened her pro career with just two finishes in her first ten bouts, but she has now earned TKO triumphs in three straight fights. She wasted no time in taking tonight’s fight to the ground, where she unloaded with punches from mount until the referee stepped in to rescue Yonezawa.

Sugiyama (10-3-0) backed Yonezawa (1-6-0) up right away in round one and she landed punches and knees in the corner. Sugiyama took Yonezawa down and quickly transitioned to full mount. From there, she rained down dozens of punches to the face of Yonezawa until the referee intervened to stop the one-sided fight at the 1:16 mark of round one.

Since returning to Japan in 2012 following a one-year trip to study jiu-jitsu in Australia, Sugiyama has won four straight bouts. The popular bantamweight fighter is coming off of back-to-back first-round TKO victories this year that have lasted a combined time of just 2:17.

Winner: Shizuka Sugiyama by TKO (Punches) at 1:16 of round one. She improves to 10-3-0.
