Julia Berezikova Submits Karla Benitez At Super Fight League 12Russia’s Julia Berezikova picked up her sixth straight win tonight at Super Fight League 12 in Mumbai, India. Berezikova submitted Spanish rival Karla Benitez in a rematch from a hotly-contested bout in May. Berezikova has won four fights in 13 months and is quickly rising up the female ranks.

In tonight’s SFL 12 rematch, Berezikova erased any lingering doubts about her Split Decision win over Benitez from earlier this year. She held a clear advantage in the striking exchanges early on and eventually trapped a game but outmatched Benitez in a fight-ending armbar early in the second round.

Berezikova (7-3-0) opened tonight’s rematch with leg kicks and quick punches that kept her opponent on the defensive. Benitez (7-4-0, 1 NC) caught a body kick and scored a takedown, but had to fight off an armbar and a leglock attempt from Berezikova. Benitez scrambled back to her feet and Berezikova continued to control the striking battles with more leg kicks and one-twos. The fighters exchanged knees in the clinch shortly before the bell sounded to end the relatively one-sided round.

A hard counter right hook landed for Berezikova in the opening seconds of round two and she continued to mix up her strikes. Benitez once again caught a body kick and followed Berezikova to the ground. Berezikova attempted a pair of armbars from the bottom, but Benitez was able to escape on both occasions. A third armbar yielded success for Berezikova and Benitez was forced to tap out.

Since returning to MMA following a layoff of close to three years, Berezikova has looked impressive in each fight and she put on one of the strongest performances of her six-year career tonight.

Winner: Julia Berezikova by Submission (Armbar) at 1:42 of round two. She improves to 7-3-0.
