Returning to competition for the first time since her destruction of Gina “Conviction” Carano, Strikeforce Women’s Lightweight Champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos will battle Dutch standout Marloes Coenen at the tentatively titled “Cyborg vs Coenen” event on January 30th in Strikeforce.
While the fight has not yet been officially confirmed as the main event, it would mark the second straight headlining bout for Santos, who stopped Carano inside of one round in August. Coenen submitted late-replacement Roxanne Modafferi at Strikeforce: “Fedor vs Rogers” on November 7th.

Following a week of questions and speculation, World Victory Road (WVR) and Fighting and Entertainment Group (FEG) officially announced today that their Sengoku and DREAM divisions, respectively, would join forces at the 19-fight, FEG-promoted K-1 “Dynamite!! 2009” card on New Year’s Eve.
The landmark agreement comes on the heels of financial troubles in Sengoku and will pave the way for quite possibly the single best mixed martial arts card in history. World Victory Road still plans to hold its own “Sengoku Raiden Championships” events in 2010.

Capped off by an excellent Shooto Flyweight Championship bout between new champion Rambaa “M-16” Somdet and Toboru “Shinpei” Tahara, Shooto: “Revolutionary Exchanges 3” was another solid event this evening at JCB Hall in Tokyo, Japan.
Also on the card, Kotetsu Boku picked up an incredible comeback victory when he rebounded from a shaky start with a one-punch knockout of Yukio Sakaguchi, while Megumi “Mega Megu” Fujii took her record to 19-0-0 with a first-round submission of “Windy” Tomomi Sunaba.

With injuries no longer a problem, the long-awaited rematch between Strikeforce Lightweight Champion Josh “The Punk” Thomson and Interim Lightweight Champion Gilbert “El Niño” Melendez has been set for the upcoming Strikeforce: “Evolution” card on December 19th at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.
The rematch, first scheduled for April of this year, was postponed on multiple occasions after both fighters suffered injuries, but Thomson has now recovered from a broken leg and will aim to defeat Melendez again.

Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champions clashed tonight at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada when “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” Tito Ortiz returned from another lengthy hiatus from the Octagon and came up short in his second close battle with Forrest Griffin in the night’s main event.

Strikeforce entered Kansas City, Kansas tonight for the fifth edition of their successful Challengers Series and MMARising.com has live coverage of the event as it happened, including the headlining welterweight bout between undefeated rising star Tyron “T-Wood” Woodley and Rudy Bears.

In a development that should shock no one, former UFC welterweight title contender Karo “The Heat” Parisyan has withdrawn from his scheduled UFC 106 bout with Dustin “McLovin” Hazelett this weekend on just two days’ notice after citing a list of “nagging and lingering” injuries.
Parisyan previously withdrew from a scheduled fight with Yoshiyuki “Zenko” Yoshida in 2008 on just one day’s notice and was then suspended after testing positive for painkillers following UFC 94. UFC President Dana White has stated that Parisyan will not fight for the promotion again.
