Already the exclusive home for Strikeforce Challengers Series events in Canada, the Super Channel television network has taken a bigger step into the world of mixed martial arts and will now broadcast all Strikeforce on Showtime events live across Canada, beginning on December 19th.
On that night, Strikeforce presents an excellent card at “Evolution,” which takes place at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. The event is headlined by a middleweight bout between former champion Cung Le and tough brawler Scott “Hands of Steel” Smith.
Super Channel will now serve as the exclusive Canadian broadcaster for all non-CBS mixed martial arts events from Strikeforce, which allows Canadian subscribers access to all Strikeforce events.
The network has previously aired Challengers Series events live, while more prominent Showtime cards – which were only available live on pay-per-view in the country – aired on a delay of one week or more.
All Strikeforce events, aside from those broadcasted on primetime CBS television, will now air live and in their entirety on Super Channel in Canada.
The announcement provides the passionate and growing mixed martial arts fanbase in Canada with greater access to some of the best fights in the sport.
With competition among the top Canadian sports networks becoming more important by the day, Super Channel, a pay channel that specialises in both sports and extensive movie programming, has emerged as a major player in mixed martial arts coverage.
Super Channel subscribers can tune into the network on December 19th to watch Strikeforce: “Evolution” at the same time as their American counterparts on Showtime. The event begins at 10:00 P.M. Eastern, 7:00 P.M. Pacific.
