NAAFS: “Caged Fury 16” Live Play-By-Play & ResultsThe North American Allied Fight Series came to the state of West Virginia for the first time this evening. NAAFS: “Caged Fury 16” took place at the Morgantown Events Center and was headlined by a super heavyweight bout between UFC veteran Sean “Big Sexy” McCorkle and Mike Gordon.

Also tonight, NAAFS mainstay Joey “The Jackhammer” Holt returned to the promotion for the first time as a pro when he took on Nate “Red Fury” Hall. Top prospect Ashley “Smashley” Cummins battled Stephanie “Macaquinha” Frausto. MMARising.com has live play-by-play for tonight’s NAAFS card.

 

Sean “Big Sexy” McCorkle vs Mike Gordon

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Dan Miragliotta. The fighters were cautious early on until McCorkle scored a takedown. He tried for a keylock from the top and moved to mount. McCorkle locked on an arm-triangle choke and passed to the side. Gordon quickly tapped out.

Winner: Sean McCorkle by Submission (Arm-Triangle Choke) at 2:14 of round one. He improves to 14-2-0.

 

Joey Bernard “The Jackhammer” Holt vs Nate “Red Fury” Hall

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Keith Peterson. Holt landed punches right away and Hall pressed him up against the cage. He pulled guard, but Holt postured up with big punches. Hall rolled to his side and turtled and the fight was stopped.

Winner: Joey Holt by KO (Punches) at 0:54 of round one. He improves to 3-0-0.

 

Ashley “Smashley” Cummins vs Stephanie “Macaquinha” Frausto

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Dan Miragliotta. Cummins scored with punches right away and took Frausto down. Frausto tried to set up an armbar, but Cummins had none of it and punched from the top. Frausto landed two elbows from the bottom, but Cummins remained active with her punches. Frausto nearly trapped Cummins in an armbar and she used it to sweep. Cummins got to full guard and threw elbows from the bottom as Frausto punched from the top. The fighters stood and Cummins countered leg kicks with another takedown. Close round. 10-9 Cummins, barely.

Round 2:
Cummins took Frausto back down in the second round and landed short punches from the top. She passed to half-guard and continued to land short punches and elbows. Time was called and Cummins was deducted a point for strikes to the back of the head. Action resumed on the feet and Cummins slammed Frausto back down. 9-9.

Round 3:
Cummins scored an early takedown in the final round and moved to half-guard. She landed punches to the sides of Frausto’s head as Frausto rolled to her stomach. Frausto fell to her back again and Cummins punched from the top. The fighters stood and Frausto countered a takedown with a guillotine choke. Cummins stayed calm and freed herself and the round came to a close. 10-9 Cummins.

Note: This fight was erroneously contested under three-minute rounds, rather than five-minute rounds as scheduled.

Winner: Ashley Cummins by Unanimous Decision (29-27, 29-27, 29-27) after three 3:00 rounds. She improves to 2-0-0.

 

Josh “The Sandman” Stansbury vs John Opfar

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Dan Miragliotta. Opfar countered an early takedown attempt with punches, but Stansbury got him down on his second try. Opfar gave up his back and Stansbury landed a series of punches. Some evidently hit the back of Opfar’s head and Stansbury was deducted a point. After the restart, Opfar looked for a takedown of his own, but Stansbury countered with a standing guillotine choke and Opfar was forced to submit.

Winner: Josh Stansbury by Submission (Guillotine Choke) at 1:55 of round one. He improves to 3-2-0.

 

Brandon “White Steel” Saling vs Mickey Hughes

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Keith Peterson. Both fighters were aggressive with punches right away and Saling scored with a hard flurry that backed Hughes up to the cage. Hughes looked to be hurt, but he countered with a knee. Saling retreated and regained his footing. The fighters clinched and traded strikes in close. As Hughes took a step backwards, Saling landed a massive uppercut that sent him crashing to the mat. Saling walked away knowing the fight was over.

Winner: Brandon Saling by KO (Punch) at 2:06 of round one. He improves to 7-5-0.

 

Rick “Have A Nice” Day vs Nathan “BAM” Bryant

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Dan Miragliotta. Punches were exchanged right away and Day backed Bryant up to the cage. The fighters were separated quickly and Day missed with a head kick. He landed a knee in a clinch and backed Bryant up to the cage once more. Both heavyweights landed punches to the body until they were separated again. Bryant scored a takedown and landed in mount.

Bryant moved to a high mount and landed punches while preventing Day from escaping out the back. Day tried to push off of the cage, but could not. Day attempted a heel hook and Bryant escaped. Time was called to replace Day’s mouthpiece. Action resumed and Bryant closed out the round with short punches on the ground. 10-9 Bryant.

Round 2:
The pace slowed in the second round as Bryant looked to close the distance with punches and Day seemed content to kick at his ribs from a distance. As Bryant walked forward, Day floored him with a devastating head kick and the fight was immediately stopped.

Winner: Rick Day by KO (Head Kick) at 1:26 of round two. He improves to 1-0-0.
