Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal vs “Maverick” Michael Chiesa
Round 1:
Chiesa shot in for a takedown right away, but Masvidal tried to take his back on the way down. The fighters stood and Masvidal landed an elbow, but Chiesa dropped him with a one-two. Masvidal recovered on the ground and escaped a power guillotine choke. He flurried with punches and Chiesa circled away. Chiesa landed a nice left hand and he pinned Masvidal against the cage.
Masvidal escaped the clinch, but Chiesa landed another one-two and a body kick. He continued to press the action with varied attacks. A hard body kick and a left cross landed for Chiesa, but Masvidal answered with a body kick and a right hook. Masvidal finished the round with hooks to the head and body. 10-9 Chiesa.
Round 2:
Chiesa took Masvidal down against the cage in round two. Masvidal locked on a tight guillotine choke, but Chiesa somehow escaped and the fighters returned to their feet. Masvidal flurried with punches and followed with a winging right hook. He caught a kick and avoided a spinning kick from Chiesa, who fell to his back. Masvidal worked from the top in Chiesa’s guard.
Masvidal scored with big punches and elbows. He moved to side control and Chiesa rolled over. Masvidal threw a hard knee to the body and flurried with more punches. He threatened with a rear-naked choke and landed more strikes, then locked on a Brabo Choke. Chiesa appeared to be okay, but Masvidal tightened the choke and Chiesa tapped out.
Winner: Jorge Masvidal by Submission (Brabo Choke) at 4:59 of round two. He improves to 25-7-0.
Danny “Last Call” Castillo vs Tim “The Dirty Bird” Means
Round 1:
Castillo fell while throwing a kick in the opening seconds, but he scrambled back to his feet and took Means down. He used a can opener to keep Means in place and landed occasional elbows and punches to the body. More short elbows scored for Castillo until Means fought his way back to a standing position. Castillo took Means’s back and suplexed him down, but he could not hold him there. The fighters stood and Means landed a knee and a hard left cross. Castillo took him down again and struck from the top. 10-9 Castillo.
Round 2:
Castillo tried to close the distance in round one as the much taller Means kept him at bay with jabs and left hands. Means picked his shots with punches, but Castillo managed to land a looping right hand over the top. Means just missed with a standing back elbow and Castillo took him down. Means struck from the bottom and tried to push off of the cage. He landed an upkick and got back to his feet. 10-9 Means.
Round 3:
Castillo landed a right hook in the final round and Means countered with a knee. He threw another standing back elbow that partially landed. Means jabbed and landed three big knees that forced Castillo to backpedal. Both fighters landed left hooks in close and Means kicked to the body. Castillo drilled him with a left hook, but Means was unfazed.
Another hard knee landed for Means and he reversed a takedown into top position. He stood over Castillo and landed two left hands before Castillo scrambled and stood up. Means walked forward and landed a knee to the body, and the fight ended with both fighters landing right hooks. 10-9 Means.
Winner: Danny Castillo by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 16-5-0.
Melvin “The Young Assassin” Guillard vs Mac Danzig
Round 1:
Guillard came up just short with his punches early on, but he landed a solid leg kick. Danzig clinched and Guillard landed a knee before circling out. Another leg kick and an overhand right scored for Guillard. He landed a stiff jab and a one-two that prompted Danzig to clinch again. Guillard broke free and backed Danzig up with a pair of one-two combos. Danzig flurried to the body late in the round and Guillard answered with a powerful body kick. 10-9 Guillard.
Round 2:
Danzig clinched and briefly took Guillard’s back in round two, but Guillard defended well and circled away. Guillard landed a nice right hand and more stiff jabs. He ducked under Danzig’s looping left hooks and hurt Danzig with a left of his own. Danzig fell to the mat and covered up, but Guillard landed three big hammerfists that knocked him out cold.
Winner: Melvin Guillard by KO (Punches) at 2:47 of round two. He improves to 54-13-3, 1 NC.
“The Detroit Superstar” Daron Cruickshank vs Yves “Thugjitsu Master” Edwards
Round 1:
Cruickshank targeted the body early on with a kick and a right hand. He followed with a head kick and Edwards answered with one of his own. Quick punches were exchanged and Edwards landed a nice flurry. Both fighters scored with body kicks and Cruickshank went high with his kicks again. Edwards pressed forward with punches and Cruickshank countered with more kicks. He landed a combination in close and missed with a spinning back kick. Close opening round. 10-9 Cruickshank.
Round 2:
The second round began with an exchange of punches near the cage and both men landed with right hooks to the body. Cruickshank finished a combination with a left hook to the jaw. Edwards remained the aggressor and he pressed the action with stiff jabs. Cruickshank landed more kicks to the upper body. A left cross backed Cruickshank up momentarily.
Cruickshank kicked to the body again and he countered a one-two with a short uppercut. More kicks were exchanged and Edwards threw a leg kick, head kick combo. Cruickshank jumped in with a front kick to the body and he threw more kicks and a spinning backfist in the ensuing exchange. Edwards finished the round with a solid body kick of his own. Very close round again. 10-9 Cruickshank.
Round 3:
Edwards stood in the centre of the cage and threw one-twos and leg kicks in the final round. Cruickshank circled on the outside and countered with more kicks. Edwards scored with a nice flurry, but Cruickshank answered back with an axe kick and a head kick attempt. Edwards kicked at Cruickshank’s lead leg and Cruickshank responded with body kicks.
More leg kicks and a combination landed for Edwards. Cruickshank fired back with a right hook and he ducked under a head kick. Edwards continued to chop away at Cruickshank’s lead leg and he fought off a takedown attempt. Cruickshank missed with a flashy kick and Edwards landed a right hand to the body in the final seconds. Close round, close fight. 10-9 Edwards.
Winner: Daron Cruickshank by Split Decision (30-27, 30-27, 27-30) after three rounds. He improves to 13-3-0.
Ed “Short Fuse” Herman vs Trevor “Hot Sauce” Smith
Round 1:
Smith initiated a clinch early on and the fighters traded knees. Herman mixed in uppercuts and Smith landed more knees. A big one-two scored for Smith, but Herman rocked him with a counter left. Hard punches were exchanged and Herman landed an uppercut. Smith staggered Herman with a right hook, but he did not capitalise and Herman began to recover.
Herman pressed forward with right hooks and a knee. He followed with an uppercut as Smith countered with a left hook. Both fighters appeared to be stunned briefly and they clinched against the fence. Herman walked Smith down with punches and fought off a takedown attempt. He landed looping hooks and Smith’s left eye began to swell shut. Entertaining round. 10-9 Herman.
Round 2:
Smith laned a head kick in round two, but Herman dropped him with a counter right. As the fighters stood, Smith landed a vicious soccer kick to the chest. Left hooks were exchanged and Herman caught a kick. Smith reversed a clinch and attempted a hip toss, but lost the position. Herman made him pay with right hands. Smith landed a body kick and Herman answered with a lunging left hook.
Smith shot in for a takedown and got Herman down against the fence. Herman scrambled back to his feet, but Smith landed a combination and a knee. Huge punches were exchanged and both landed. The fighters traded knees and uppercuts in the clinch and Smith snuck in a standing elbow. Herman took him down into side control shortly before the bell. Close round. 10-9 Smith, barely.
Round 3:
Smith opened round three with a leg kick and two looping hooks. Herman took him down and fought out of a tight guillotine choke. Herman worked for an arm-triangle choke choke, but he could not pass Smith’s half-guard and let it go. The fighters stood and Herman countered a leg kick with a right cross that backed Smith up. Herman shrugged off a takedown and held Smith against the cage.
Smith circled free of the clinch and tried for a knee, but Herman avoided it. Time was called after Herman was kicked in the groin. The fight continued and both men landed right hooks. Herman dropped levels for a takedown, but he could not get Smith down. Smith attempted a head kick and he landed two knees to the body. Two left hooks scored for Smith before the bell. Another close round. 10-9 Herman.
Winner: Ed Herman by Split Decision (30-27, 29-28, 27-30) after three rounds. He improves to 21-9-0, 1 NC.
Germaine “The Iron Lady” de Randamie vs Julie “Fireball” Kedzie
Round 1:
De Randamie avoided an early takedown, but lost her balance and fell as Kedzie swept her leg and landed a left hand. De Randamie stood and Kedzie rushed in with punches. The fighters clinched and de Randamie threw knees to the body while Kedzie answered with short uppercuts. De Randamie continued to throw knees to the leg and body.
Kedzie reversed the clinch momentarily, but de Randamie put her against the cage again and landed more knees. The referee separated the fighters and Kedzie landed a leg kick. De Randamie responded with a body kick and Kedzie caught it in search of a takedown. De Randamie scored with three more knees before the bell. 10-9 de Randamie.
Round 2:
De Randamie jabbed and landed a nice overhand right in the second round. Kedzie tried to catch a kick, but de Randamie pulled her leg away. Kedzie landed a solid combination and an uppercut, but de Randamie fired back with another right hand. Kedzie took her down and landed short strikes from half-guard. De Randamie held on and Kedzie threw more short punches with her right hand. 10-9 Kedzie.
Round 3:
The final round began with an exchange of strikes in close and Kedzie flurried with punches. She tripped de Randamie very briefly, but de Randamie returned to her feet and held Kedzie against the cage. De Randamie’s forehead began to swell up from Kedzie’s early strikes in the round, but she kept Kedzie pinned against the fence and landed knees. Kedzie slipped after a knee to the face from de Randamie and the fighters separated.
De Randamie landed a hard right hand and just missed with a head kick. Kedzie landed a kick to the body and de Randamie tried for another head kick. De Randamie landed a right cross and avoided a spinning wheel kick. Kedzie looked to put together a combination of punches and a body kick, but de Randamie kept her distance. Kedzie secured a takedown and de Randamie struck from the bottom with elbows. Kedzie punched from de Randamie’s guard until the bell. Close round. 10-9 de Randamie.
Winner: Germaine de Randamie by Split Decision (30-27, 29-28, 28-29) after three rounds. She improves to 4-2-0.
Justin “J-Bomb” Salas vs Aaron Riley
Round 1:
Salas landed two body kicks and a nice left cross early in the fight. Riley pressed forward with left hands and Salas’s right eye began to swell. He took Riley down and landed a knee and an uppercut on the way up. A one-two and another body kick scored for Salas. He briefly took Riley down, but Riley scrambled up and blocked a head kick. Riley stuffed a takedown and Salas threw a jumping switch knee and a front kick. 10-9 Salas.
Round 2:
Salas took Riley down in the second round and Riley quickly returned to his feet. Salas threw a head kick that partially landed and followed with two knees in the clinch. Riley walked Salas down with punches, but Salas countered with an uppercut and more knees in close. Riley began to bleed heavily from the nose. Salas caught a kick and tripped Riley to the mat momentarily.
Back on the feet, Riley countered a leg kick by taking Salas’s back. Salas escaped the clinch and Riley flurried with punches. He landed a nice leg kick and Salas looked to counter with a head kick. Salas stayed on the outside and circled to avoid Riley’s punches in the final seconds. 10-9 Salas.
Round 3:
Riley cartwheeled to avoid a takedown attempt in the final round and Salas landed a hard body kick. Punches were exchanged and Salas landed a nice right hook. He followed with a head kick, but Riley continued to press forward with combinations. Time was called after Riley was inadvertently poked in the eye.
Action resumed and Riley landed a chopping leg kick. Salas answered with a variety of kicks including one to the upper body. He threw two knees in close, but Riley backed him up with a big head kick that cut Salas over the right eye. Riley attempted another head kick and the fighters exchanged punches until the end of the fight. Close round. 10-9 Riley.
Winner: Justin Salas by Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29) after three rounds. He improves to 11-4-0.
Yaotzin Meza vs John “Prince” Albert
Round 1:
Meza secured a takedown into half-guard in the opening round. Albert countered with a guillotine choke attempt and got back to full guard. In a scramble, Meza worked for a guillotine of his own, but he wound up on his back. Albert latched onto an arm and rolled for an armbar. Meza escaped and landed punches from Albert’s half-guard. Meza locked on another guillotine choke and used it to move into mount, but Albert managed to hold on and he escaped the choke before the bell. 10-9 Meza.
Round 2:
Meza staggered Albert with a hard leg kick in round two. Albert countered a takedown with a guillotine and transitioned to a triangle choke. He tightened the choke, but Meza refused to submit. A fatigued Albert released the choke and Meza immediately took his back. Meza began working for a rear-naked choke. He flattened Albert out and secured the choke for the tapout win.
Winner: Yaotzin Meza by Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 2:49 of round two. He improves to 20-8-0.
