Liz Carmouche, Germaine De Randamie Win At UFC On FOX 8Former bantamweight title challenger Liz “Girl-Rilla” Carmouche earned her first UFC victory tonight at UFC on FOX 8: “Johnson vs Moraga” in Seattle, Washington. Carmouche stopped Octagon newcomer Jéssica “Bate Estaca” Andrade after dominating the second round of their main card bout.

Also on tonight’s card, ten-time Muay Thai world champion Germaine “The Iron Lady” de Randamie picked up her biggest mixed martial arts victory to date. The standout striker defeated tough veteran Julie “Fireball” Kedzie by Split Decision in a featured bout on the FX-televised preliminary card.

Carmouche (9-3-0) secured a takedown early in round one, but Andrade (9-3-0) worked back to her feet against the cage. Carmouche avoided a guillotine choke attempt and tripped Andrade to the ground, but Andrade stood again and slammed Carmouche down with an overhead slam. She punched from the top and pulled guard with a guillotine choke that kept Carmouche trapped in place until the bell.

The second round began with a big takedown from Carmouche, who quickly moved to mount. She rained down punches until Andrade gave up her back. Carmouche was unable to finish the fight with a rear-naked choke, but she battered Andrade with punches and elbows from mount and back control. The beating continued until referee Herb Dean had seen enough at the 3:57 mark of round two.

Tonight’s victory got Carmouche back on track after her two-fight winning streak was halted by UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey at UFC 157 in February.

Winner: Liz Carmouche by TKO (Punches & Elbows) at 3:57 of round two. She improves to 9-3-0.

De Randamie (4-2-0) and Kedzie (16-12-0) spent much of the opening round battling for position in the clinch against the cage. De Randamie landed numerous knees to the thigh and body until the fighters were separated late in the round. Kedzie caught a kick and tried for a takedown, but de Randamie stayed on her feet and landed more knees.

In round two, de Randamie countered combinations from Kedzie with overhand rights. Kedzie flurried in close and scored a takedown, but de Randamie defended well from the bottom and prevented her from doing any damage. Kedzie landed a nice combination early in round three, but de Randamie tied her up against the cage again and scored with more knees. Kedzie secured a takedown late in the fight, but de Randamie was active with strikes from her back.

One judge scored the fight 29-28 in Kedzie’s favour, while the remaining two had it 30-27 and 29-28 for de Randamie, who took the hard-fought Split Decision win. The 46-0 kickboxer has won back-to-back fights in her MMA career.

Winner: Germaine de Randamie by Split Decision (30-27, 29-28, 28-29) after three rounds. She improves to 4-2-0.

  1. Andrade fought very, very well against a bigger and stronger opponent. She’s a natural 125 lber. Imagine her fighting someone as big as Germaine de Randamie… She’s too small.
