The Ultimate Fighting Championship came to United Center in Chicago, Illinois tonight for UFC on FOX 6: “Johnson vs Dodson.” The event featured a UFC Flyweight Championship bout between reigning champ Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson and challenger John “The Magician” Dodson.
Also on the card tonight, former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson looked to get back on the winning track when he faced fast-rising star Glover Teixeira. Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone battled Anthony “Showtime” Pettis at 155. MMARising.com has live play-by-play for the card.
UFC Flyweight Championship
Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson vs John “The Magician” Dodson
Round 1:
The fighters opened the bout with quick punches and Dodson landed a nice leg kick. He dropped Johnson to a knee with a one-two, but Johnson recovered and returned to his feet. Dodson caught a kick and slammed Johnson down, but allowed him to stand. More quick punches were exchanged and Dodson landed a hard left cross as Johnson pressed forward. Johnson took Dodson down, but he could not keep him there. On the feet, Dodson flurried near the cage and the round ended in a clinch. Close round. 10-9 Dodson.
Round 2:
Dodson landed a hard one-two and a follow-up left cross in the second round. Johnson clinched and took him down, but Dodson used the cage to stand and circled away. Two left hooks landed for Johnson, but Dodson dropped him with a right-left combo. Johnson stood and was floored again with a big left hook. He got back to his feet and kept his distance.
Dodson closed in with a combination, but Johnson recovered and began to throw leg kicks. Two more left hands landed for Dodson and Johnson ducked under a third. Dodson avoided a takedown, but Johnson landed a knee to the body. Punches were exchanged and Johnson landed a body kick. Both fighters landed knees to the ribs in the final seconds. 10-9 Dodson.
Round 3:
Dodson countered kicks and a clinch attempt from Johnson with a series of left hooks in round three. Johnson shot in for a takedown and fell directly into a knee. Time was called seconds later after Dodson was kneed in the groin. Action continued and Dodson scored with a hard body kick. He followed with a flying knee and landed a counter left cross after catching a Johnson body kick.
Johnson went high with a kick and clipped Dodson with a right hook and a one-two. Dodson quickly responded with punches in return. He remained effective with his counters. Johnson was able to score a brief takedown and struck from Dodson’s guard. Dodson stood and the fighters traded punches. A left hook landed for Dodson before the bell. Close round. 10-9 Dodson.
Round 4:
Johnson punched his way into a clinch in round four and time was called after he landed a knee to the head while Dodson appeared to have a hand down. The fight soon continued and Dodson landed a left cross. He hopped on one foot to defend against a takedown attempt. The fighters broke apart and Johnson landed a combination.
Johnson tried again to take Dodson down. Dodson put a hand down to avoid knees to the head, but Johnson pulled him up and bloodied his nose with knees. More knees scored for Johnson until Dodson finally managed to break free of his grip. Dodson flurried, but Johnson cracked him with a hard combination before the bell. 10-9 Johnson.
Round 5:
Johnson jabbed his way into a clinch and landed more knees in round five. He took Dodson down against the cage and punched as Dodson stood up. Johnson remained the aggressor as the round progressed, but it was Dodson who clinched and secured a takedown of his own. Johnson stood and stuffed a takedown with knees. He hurt Dodson with more knees and punches against the cage. Johnson unloaded with knees and uppercuts on a bloody Dodson. He continued to land knees until the end of the fight. 10-9 Johnson.
Winner: Demetrious Johnson by Unanimous Decision (49-46, 48-47, 48-47) after five rounds. He improves to 17-2-1 and remains UFC Flyweight Champion.
Glover Teixeira vs Quinton “Rampage” Jackson
Round 1:
Teixeira landed left and right hooks early on and Jackson answered with a one-two. Teixeira took Jackson down and moved to back control. He flattened Jackson out and landed punches while looking to set up a choke. Jackson scrambled up and landed a combination. Teixeira partially landed with a head kick and the fighters traded big punches.
Teixeira landed two-punch combos to both the body and head. A left hook appeared to briefly wobble Jackson, but he stayed on his feet. A left hook hurt Jackson and Teixeira dropped him with more punches. Jackson stood and threw back punches as he began to recover. Both fighters landed one-twos in the late stages of the round. 10-9 Teixeira.
Round 2:
Teixeira tried for a takedown in round two and managed to get Jackson down on his second try. Teixeira threw short elbows from half-guard and looked to set up a keylock, but Jackson battled back to his feet and landed a nice uppercut. Teixeira scored with a one-two and backed Jackson up with jabs. An uppercut landed for Teixeira and he shrugged off a takedown attempt. Jackson flurried with punches and Teixeira answered with a combination to the body and head. Both fighters landed flurries late in the round. 10-9 Teixeira.
Round 3:
Jackson was more aggressive with his punches in the final round and he landed effective combinations until Teixeira took him down against the cage. Teixeira struck from the top and landed more punches as Jackson stood. A left hook backed Jackson up and Teixeira capped off a combination with a head kick. He took down Jackson momentarily and peppered him with punches and a knee on the way up. Teixeira began to target the body with his punches and he took Jackson down again. Teixeira closed out the fight with punches and elbows from mount. 10-9 Teixeira.
Winner: Glover Teixeira by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 20-2-0.
Anthony “Showtime” Pettis vs Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone
Round 1:
Pettis landed crisp counterpunches early in the fight and Cerrone answered with a hard knee. Pettis scored with a one-two and a body kick, then jumped in with a flying knee. Another kick to the liver dropped Cerrone and the fight was quickly stopped.
Winner: Anthony Pettis by KO (Kick To The Body) at 2:35 of round one. He improves to 16-2-0.
Ricardo “The Bully” Lamas vs Erik “New Breed” Koch
Round 1:
The fight began with an exchange of leg and body kicks for the opening 90 seconds until Lamas shot in for a takedown. Koch defended and stayed on his feet. Lamas landed knees to the body and nearly took Koch’s back. A spinning back elbow landed for Lamas and Koch escaped the clinch with a right hook. Koch countered leg kicks with punches and Lamas clinched again. Lamas took Koch down very briefly and landed a right hand. Close opening round. 10-9 Lamas by a slim margin.
Round 2:
Lamas kicked at Koch’s lead leg in round two and Koch responded with one-twos. Lamas slipped while throwing a kick, but latched onto Koch’s legs and took him down. Lamas punched to the head and body and began dropping elbows to the face. He cut Koch badly with an elbow and teed off with more until the fight was stopped. Big win for Lamas.
Winner: Ricardo Lamas by TKO (Elbows) at 2:32 of round two. He improves to 13-2-0.
