Final Valkyrie champion “V.V” Mei Yamaguchi captured another prestigious title tonight in the Deep Jewels 8 main event in Tokyo, Japan. Yamaguchi defeated two opponents in one night to win the Deep Jewels Featherweight Grand Prix and became the second Deep Jewels Featherweight Champion.

Yamaguchi earned her spot in tonight’s championship final by handing Mina Kurobe her first defeat, while Satomi “Sarami” Takano also advanced to the finals by outpointing Tomo Maesawa. In the main event, Yamaguchi stopped Takano very late in the second round to capture the vacant 106-pound title.

Deep Jewels showcased its eighth all-female fight card tonight at Shinjuku FACE in Tokyo, Japan. The injury-riddled card featured the semi-finals and championship final in the inaugural Deep Jewels Featherweight Grand Prix, which crowned a new Deep Jewels 48-kilogram (105.6-pound) champion.

Strawweight contender Juliana “Ju Thai” de Lima Carneiro picked up her second straight UFC victory in a featured preliminary bout tonight at UFC Fight Night 67: “Condit vs Alves” in Goiânia, Goiás, Brazil. Lima defeated UFC newcomer Ericka Almeida, who suffered the first loss of her career.

Lima controlled the majority of tonight’s fight from top position in Almeida’s guard, and she avoided Almeida’s savvy submission game by landing some nice ground and pound. Almeida looked to rally on the feet in round three, but Lima smothered her on the mat once again and cruised to victory.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship came to Goiânia Arena in Goiânia, Goiás, Brazil tonight for UFC Fight Night 67: “Condit vs Alves.” The event was headlined by a welterweight showdown between “The Natural Born Killer” Carlos Condit and hard-hitting contender Thiago “Pitbull” Alves.

A fracture in training has forced Yuko “Amiba” Oya out of her featured strawweight bout on Sunday night at Deep Jewels 8 in Tokyo, Japan. Oya’s scheduled opponent, 13-year veteran Misaki Takimoto, now squares off against Canada’s Tushara “Tee Vee” Veerella on the abbreviated card.

Injuries and illnesses have resulted in a number of late changes to the Deep Jewels 8 card, and a planned atomweight bout between Emi Tomimatsu and Ayaka Miura was scrapped this past week when Miura was diagnosed with Ménière’s Disease. Sunday’s card is now complete with six total bouts.

Deep Women’s Flyweight Champion “Princess” Satoko Shinashi looks to extend her winning streak to five when she makes her Road FC debut on July 25th at Road Fighting Championship 24 in Tokyo, Japan. Shinashi is set to face off against unbeaten South Korean prospect Ji Hye Park.

Road FC officials announced the 105-pound atomweight bout this week. Shinashi returned to MMA in October following a six-year retirement, and she has since racked up three straight first-round finishes. Park easily won her professional MMA debut against Miyu Irie at Road FC 21 in February.

More than one year after she last competed inside the UFC Octagon, TUF 18 contestant Jessamyn “The Gun” Duke returns to action on July 25th at UFC on FOX 16: “Dillashaw vs Barao 2” in Chicago, Illinois. Duke meets Elizabeth Phillips in what is quite clearly a must-win fight for both.

UFC officials announced the bantamweight clash earlier today. Duke’s 2014 campaign did not go as she had hoped, and she dropped back-to-back fights against Bethe “Pitbull” Correia and Leslie “The Peacemaker” Smith. Phillips also faces the UFC cut list after dropping a pair of close decisions.

Multi-time boxing world champion Holly “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holm looks for her second UFC victory when she steps back into the Octagon on July 15th at UFC Fight Night 71: “Mir vs Duffee” in San Diego, California. Holm is set to battle rising star Marion “The Belizean Bruiser” Reneau.

UFC officials confirmed the bantamweight bout today following a report on UFC Tonight last week. Holm made a successful UFC debut in February when she edged out Raquel “Rocky” Pennington at UFC 184. Reneau most recently upset Jéssica “Bate Estaca” Andrade at UFC Fight Night 61.
