A neck injury has forced former Strikeforce title challenger Roxanne “The Happy Warrior” Modafferi out of her planned bout with Shizuka Sugiyama on Saturday at Jewels: “22nd Ring” in Tokyo, Japan. Modafferi sustained the injury in training and her withdrawal from the card was announced today.
The remainder of the “22nd Ring” card remains intact, including the Jewels Lightweight Queen Championship main event between Ayaka Hamasaki and Emi “Kamikaze Angel” Fujino. A total of 15 bouts have been confirmed for the event, plus six amateur grappling matches added to the card today.

Mixed martial arts legend Megumi “Mega Megu” Fujii makes her return to action against final Valkyrie Featherweight Champion “V.V” Mei Yamaguchi at Vale Tudo Japan 2012 on December 24th in Tokyo. The featured female matchup was officially announced for the Christmas Eve card today.
Fujii has not fought since suffering a contentious decision loss to top-ranked strawweight fighter Jessica “Jag” Aguilar at Bellator 69 in May. The defeat halted Fujii’s three-fight winning streak. Yamaguchi most recently defeated grappling specialist Emi Tomimatsu in a rematch at Jewels: “20th Ring.”

A welterweight rematch between fast-rising star Rory “Ares” MacDonald and former UFC title challenger “The Natural Born Killer” Carlos Condit is now in the works for UFC 158 on March 16, 2013 in Montréal, Québec, Canada. MMAjunkie.com first reported on plans for the targeted matchup today.
MacDonald and Condit first faced off at UFC 115 in June 2010. MacDonald dominated much of the opening two rounds before Condit rallied back and secured a TKO win with seven seconds remaining in the fight. MacDonald campaigned for the rematch after defeating B.J. Penn this past weekend.

Fight Factory gym co-owner Damien Roche is once again facing allegations of embezzlement following the closure of the Patong Beach, Thailand-based training centre this past week. Roche is accused of disappearing with tens of thousands of dollars taken from investors, suppliers and former friends.
This incident is not the first time that Roche has been the subject of similar allegations. In October 2010, fighters were stranded in Macau after the Fury 2 MMA event was cancelled at the last minute amidst allegations that its promoter, Roche, had fled with event money totalling close to $100,000.

Former DEEP Women’s Lightweight Champion Hisae Watanabe will make her Jewels debut in an exhibition match against one-time rival Naoko Omuro at Jewels: “22nd Ring” on December 15th in Tokyo, Japan. Omuro is set to retire following the exhibition bout after competing for close to 11 years.
In addition to the Watanabe-Omuro exhibition, a grappling match was also announced for the “22nd Ring” card today. Highly-touted jiu-jitsu practitioner Rikako Yuasa will face off against Jewels mainstay Yuko “Amiba” Oya. A total of 16 bouts have now been confirmed for next weekend’s Jewels event.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship came to the Key Arena in Seattle, Washington tonight for UFC on FOX 5: “Henderson vs Diaz.” The event was headlined by a UFC Lightweight Championship matchup between reigning champion “Smooth” Benson Henderson and top contender Nate Diaz.
Also on the card tonight, former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua faced Swedish standout Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafsson. Welterweight prospect Rory “Ares” MacDonald took on former two-division champion B.J. Penn. MMARising.com has live play-by-play for the card.

DEEP women’s open-weight champ Amanda “Powerhouse” Lucas earned a hard-fought decision win over pro wrestling veteran Yuiga tonight at DEEP: “Cage Impact 2012 In Tokyo.” Lucas showcased her improved striking and defeated Yuiga by Majority Decision after two rounds in a non-title bout.
Lucas had a much tougher fight on her hands than many had expected and Yuiga, returning to MMA for the first time in more than five years, put on a strong showing in defeat. Lucas was able to outstrike Yuiga with punching flurries in the second round that proved to be enough to earn her the victory.

Talented striker Stephanie “Snowflake” Eggink made a triumphant return to action tonight at Xtreme Fighting Championships 21: “Night of Champions 2” in Nashville, Tennessee. Eggink earned a Unanimous Decision victory over Jackson’s MMA’s “Hurricane” Heather Clark in a featured strawweight bout.
It was Clark who dominated the early striking exchanges with a series of right hooks, but Eggink showed off her underrated ground skills in working for submissions. Eggink’s jabs and counterpunches allowed her to take control in the later rounds and she walked away with a well-deserved win.
