Randa Markos Faces Jocelyn Jones-Lybarger At UFC Fight Night 89Strawweight standout Randa “Quiet Storm” Markos looks to get back into title contention with a win on June 18th at UFC Fight Night 89: “MacDonald vs Thompson” in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Markos faces off against RFA champion Jocelyn “Lights Out” Jones-Lybarger in a featured matchup.

TSN.ca first reported on plans for the bout on Thursday. Markos recently dropped a decision to unbeaten rising star Karolina Kowalkiewicz at UFC on FOX 17 in December. Jones-Lybarger also seeks redemption after suffering a Unanimous Decision loss to Tecia “The Tiny Tornado” Torres at UFC 194.

Markos (5-3-0) impressed many observers with a strong showing on The Ultimate Fighter 20 that saw her advance to the semi-finals before falling to eventual runner-up “Thug” Rose Namajunas. In her official UFC debut at the TUF 20 Finale, Markos suffered a razor-thin Split Decision loss to fellow semi-finalist Jessica Penne, but she rebounded with a three-round victory over Aisling “Ais The Bash” Daly at UFC 186. Markos engaged in a competitive bout with Kowalkiewicz in December, but Kowalkiewicz’s strong final round was enough to propel her to a win on the judges’ scorecards.

Jones-Lybarger (6-2-0) made a name for herself while competing for Resurrection Fighting Alliance, where she went 4-0 and captured the promotion’s women’s strawweight title this past October. Her title victory, which came against former Bellator champ Zoila “The Warrior Princess” Frausto, earned Jones-Lybarger a short-notice fight opportunity in the UFC in December. However, she struggled to mount any offence against Torres and wound up on the wrong end of a convincing decision. She now looks to get back on track by spoiling Markos’s Ontario homecoming in June.

UFC Fight Night 89: “MacDonald vs Thompson” takes place on June 18th at TD Place Arena in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The event is headlined by a welterweight bout between Rory “Red King” MacDonald and Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson.
