Sugimoto vs Fujimori, Seki vs Ebihara Added To Deep Jewels 2Two of the top female prospects on the Deep Jewels roster are set to collide on November 4th at Deep Jewels 2 in Tokyo, Japan. Highly-touted AACC fighter Megumi Sugimoto, an understudy of Megumi “Mega Megu” Fujii, takes on Sachiko Fujimori, who won her pro MMA debut in 49 seconds.

The 53kg matchup between Sugimoto and Fujimori was officially announced this weekend. Also confirmed for the card is a 48kg bout between veteran journeywoman Yukiko Seki, who has won six of her past ten fights, and the returning Madoka Ebihara, who competes for the first time in four years.

Sugimoto (1-0-0), a former two-time All-Japan wrestling runner-up, is one of the most skilled grapplers on the Deep Jewels roster today. After scoring a quick submission victory in a March grappling match for Jewels, Sugimoto made her pro MMA debut in August at Deep Jewels 1 and took a Unanimous Decision victory over Takumi Umehara. Her opponent, Fujimori (1-0-0), also opened her MMA career on the Deep Jewels 1 card. The talented prospect made short work of Sumire Takahashi and finished the fight with a rear-naked choke in 49 seconds.

Seki (11-23-0) put together an improbable streak of victories under the Jewels banner and came close to earning a shot at the promotion’s inaugural 48kg belt in late 2011. However, her unlikely run to the title was finally halted by Misaki Takimoto in the semi-finals of the Jewels Featherweight Queen tournament. Seki has struggled in her past two fights, dropping decisions to Satomi Takano and Yasuko “Ikuko” Tamada. Ebihara (4-3-0) is a veteran of Smackgirl and Valkyrie, and holds a notable win over Sachiko “Sachi” Yamamoto. She steps back into action for the first time since October 2009.

Deep Jewels 2 takes place on November 4th at Shinjuku FACE in Tokyo, Japan. The event features a Deep Jewels Featherweight Championship bout between Seo Hee Ham and Sadae “Manhoef” Numata, as well as the opening round of the Deep Jewels lightweight title tournament.
