A non-tournament bout between two-time Shoot Boxing Girls S-Cup finalist “V.V” Mei Yamaguchi and Du Peiling has been added to Saturday’s 2013 Shoot Boxing Girls S-Cup Japan Midsummer Festival card in Tokyo, Japan. The three-round matchup was officially announced by the promotion today.

Yamaguchi advanced to the finals of the 2012 Girls S-Cup before losing to three-time tournament winner Rena Kubota in the championship fight. She is coming off of a close decision defeat this past month. Peiling returns to Shoot Boxing for the first time since her debut fight against Kubota in April.

Yamaguchi (7-5-0 SB) has been one of the more successful female shoot boxers during the past four years thanks to her ability to score points with high-arc throws and suplexes. She defeated teen striker Namtarn “Supernova Girl” Por Munagpetch and Dutch prospect Lorena “Lady Pitbull” Klijn in succession in last year’s Girls S-Cup, but suffered a razor-thin Unanimous Decision loss to Kubota that denied Yamaguchi her first Girls S-Cup title. She faced Klijn in a June rematch, but Klijn avenged her past loss.

Peiling (0-1-0 SB) jumped right into the proverbial fire by facing Kubota in her shoot boxing debut on April 20th. Kubota dominated the fight with kicks and two throws that earned her a pair of Shoot Points. In round three, she choked Peiling out with a standing rear-naked choke. Peiling returns to face another tough opponent this weekend and she will look to upset the heavily-favoured Yamaguchi.

Saturday’s event features the second annual Shoot Boxing Girls S-Cup 53.5 tournament. 2012 winner Mizuki Inoue, finalist Ai Takahashi, Rio Kamikaze and Miyo Yoshida are all confirmed for this year’s 53.5kg grand prix. The card also includes the semi-finals and final of the second Shoot Boxing JKS48 high school girls’ tournament. 2012 winner Mio Tsumura faces Comachi in one semi-final matchup. Michi Nakamura faces Yuuki Kira in the other.

The 2013 Shoot Boxing Girls S-Cup Japan Midsummer Festival takes place this Saturday, August 3rd, at Yamano Hall in the Yoyogi district of Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan.
