MMA Super Heroes Books Two Women's Grand Prixs For July 13MMA Super Heroes has booked a pair of women’s grand prix tournaments for its inaugural event on July 13th at CEIL Sports Gymnasium in Louveira, São Paulo, Brazil. In one strawweight grand prix bout on the card, standout striker Kinberly Novaes faces off against talented grappler Hérica Tibúrcio.

Two flyweight tournament matchups have also been confirmed for the event. Veteran contender Carina “Barbie” Damm faces Pink Fight champ Kalindra Faria in a rematch from 2009 and unbeaten prospect Bethe Correia faces Juliana Werner Aguiar. All three bouts were announced this past week.

Novaes (6-1-0) is one of the fastest-rising female prospects in Brazil today and she has won six straight fights since dropping a decision to current Invicta FC fighter Juliana “Ju Thai” Carneiro Lima in her pro debut. Novaes’s most notable victory came in May 2012 when she stopped Jéssica “Bate Estaca” Andrade. She went on to capture the Nitrix Champion Fight 55kg women’s title in August and has since earned a pair of victories for Iron Fight Combat. In her most recent fight in March, Novaes dropped down to 115 pounds and stopped Larissa Ribeiro in the second round.

Tibúrcio (5-2-0) opened her career with five straight wins before suffering her first loss via a contentious Split Decision in a December rematch against Camila “Camilinha Pitbull” Lima. She returned to action this past month and faced her toughest opponent to date, unbeaten BJJ black belt Claudia “Claudinha” Gadelha, at Max Sport 13.2. Gadelha was able to control the positional battles on the ground to take a Unanimous Decision victory, but Tibúrcio put on a solid showing in defeat. She looks to get back on track with a victory over Novaes next month. All but one of Tibúrcio’s wins have come by submission.

Damm (17-9-0) and Faria (9-3-1) first faced off on September 20, 2009 and Damm emerged victorious via second-round TKO. Since then, however, Damm has struggled while Faria has thrived. Damm is 2-6 in her past eight bouts and she has not won a fight outside of Brazil in more than five years. She most recently dropped a close decision to Jessica “Evil” Eye in the main event of NAAFS: &#8220Fight Night In The Flats 9” earlier this month. By contrast, Faria has won five straight fights and she became the inaugural Pink Fight champion at 121 pounds this past year. She now faces Damm in a flyweight rematch that was originally planned for late 2012.

Prior to next month’s rematch, both fighters will first compete in separate fights. Damm is scheduled to face Nayara Rodrigues (1-0-0) at MMA Fight Show 2: “Teresopolis” on June 15th. On the same night, Faria takes on Alessandra “Cyborguinha” Silva (2-10-0) for a second time at Real Fight 9.

Correia (5-0-0) has won all five of her fights since debuting in May 2012 and she is coming off of a key victory over the previously unbeaten Juliete “Ju Pitbull” de Souza Silva on June 1st. Correia was then rumoured to be travelling to Russia to face veteran Julia Berezikova, but she will instead take part in the inaugural MMA Super Heroes women’s flyweight tournament. Her opponent, Aguiar (5-3-0), began her career in 2005 and went 3-3 in her first six fights. All three of her defeats came against current Invicta FC title contender Vanessa Porto. In 2011, Aguiar returned to action and she has won back-to-back fights since then. Four of Aguiar’s five career wins have come by way of knockout.

MMA Super Heroes 1 is set for July 13th at CEIL Sports Gymnasium in Louveira, São Paulo, Brazil.
