Sheila Gaff vs Amanda Nunes Added To UFC 163 In BrazilHard-hitting strikers Sheila “The German Tank” Gaff and Amanda “Lioness of the Ring” Nunes will face off at UFC 163: “Aldo vs Pettis” on August 3rd in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. MMA Argentina initially reported on the bout earlier today and UFC officials subsequently confirmed plans for the matchup.

Gaff made her Octagon debut at UFC 159, but her three-fight winning streak was snapped by Olympic silver medallist Sara McMann. Nunes also looks to rebound from a setback in her most recent fight. She dropped a one-sided Unanimous Decision to Sarah “The Monster” D’Alelio at Invicta FC 4.

Gaff (10-5-1) dropped down to the flyweight division in 2011 and she quickly ascended to the top of the 125-pound rankings with three straight first-round knockout victories. Two opponents, prospects Hanna Sillen and Jennifer Maia, succumbed to punches from Gaff within the first ten seconds of their respective fights. In October, Gaff withdrew from her planned Cage Warriors title fight against fellow UFC signee Rosi “The Surgeon” Sexton due to illness. She made the move back up to 135 pounds to face McMann in April, but McMann dominated the fight en route to a first-round TKO stoppage.

Nunes (7-3-0) burst onto the scene in Strikeforce with a 14-second knockout win over featherweight standout Julia “The Jewel” Budd in January 2011. Eight months later, she returned to her natural weight at 135 pounds to face top contender Alexis “Ally-Gator” Davis, but suffered a second-round TKO defeat. Nunes has since made two appearances for Invicta Fighting Championships. In her promotional debut, she choked out Raquel “Rocky” Pa’aluhi in July. She was unable to mount any offence against D’Alelio, however, and dropped a clear-cut decision to the grappling specialist in January.

UFC 163: “Aldo vs Pettis” takes place on August 3rd at HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
