A total of six pro women’s bouts are now set for BlackEye Promotions 5 on October 1st in Fletcher, North Carolina. Barb “Little Warrior” Honchak will face Roxanne “The Happy Warrior” Modafferi in the night’s main event at 125 pounds. Honchak has replaced Aisling Daly in the headlining fight.
Also scheduled to compete is 11-year veteran Erin “Steel” Toughill, who will look to rebound from a loss in April when she faces Anna Barone. Ashley “Loca” Sanchez, the woman who defeated Toughill, will face Ediane “India” Gomes in one of four other women’s bouts announced for the card.
Honchak (4-1-0)* steps into the main event bout against Modafferi (15-8-0) after Modafferi’s original opponent, Aisling Daly, was forced to withdraw from the card due to contractual obligations to NAAFS. Honchak has earned a trio of decision victories in 2011 and is coming off of a razor-thin win over Nina “The Macedonian Mauler” Ansaroff in April. Modafferi, meanwhile, will look to end the first three-fight losing streak of her career. Despite the recent losses, Modafferi brings a significant experience edge into the fight and has faced many of the sport’s top female fighters.
Toughill (10-3-1) did not compete for nearly two years due to injuries and illness before making her return to action at Freestyle Cage Fighting 46 on April 9th. She suffered a Unanimous Decision loss to Sanchez and will look to get her career back on track against Canada’s Barone (1-2-0), who last fought in a losing effort one year ago. Barone will enter the bout as a significant underdog, but she will look to upset Toughill in the same manner that Sanchez did earlier this year.
Sanchez (4-2-0) has now won back-to-back fights since suffering a pair of losses in 2008. A three-year layoff from MMA did not appear to hinder her in her bout with Toughill, which she won on the strength of takedowns and ground control. Sanchez is coming off of a win over Adrienne Seiber in May, while her opponent, Gomes (7-2-0), made a successful BlackEye Promotions debut in June by submitting Katrine Alendal. Gomes has never been to a decision in her professional career.
Rounding out the women’s portion of the card are bouts pitting “Little” Patricia Vidonic (3-1-0)* against Avery Vilche (2-5-1, 1 NC), Ashley “Smashley” Cummins (8-0-0 amateur, making pro debut) against Angelica Brotherton (1-2-0) and Amy “Lil’ Dynamite” Davis (1-2-0, 1 NC) against Meghan Wright (1-2-0).
*The credited records of Honchak and Vidonic do not include September 24, 2010 Ultimate Women Challenge bouts; the results of which remain under wraps due to ongoing litigation.
BlackEye Promotions 5 takes place on October 1st at the Western North Carolina Agricultural Center in Fletcher, North Carolina. Additional women’s bouts may be added to the card.

well it seems like a lot of orgs are starting to take wmma serious. at least the women will have options when zuffa drops strikeforce . zuffa has the name and money to kick start wmma , but they are too old and can’t get that people are ok with talented women fighting each other . i agree people don’t like one sided beat downs like cyborg did to finney ,that fight should not of happened , there are lots of women big enough and skilled enough to give cyborg a fight . nunes , budd, de randemie, rousey , mcmann etc , no reason for a woman like finney who might walk around 145 pds to be fighting cyb org who walks around 170 . when you have fights like that it turns most people off wmma.
Finney walks around at 155 lbs, I think, and Cyborg at 165 lbs. Finney has fought before in the 145 and 155 lb divisions, so… Oh, and she and Cyborg looked to be about the same size.
Now, didn’t Erin say time and again she wouldn’t fight people with bad records…? This is starting to become a trend here…
Finally, I hope Roxy wins her fight and starts a new winning streak. Her last two “losses” (against Rosi and Hitomi) were draws, IMO… very skilled and nice girl and certainly deserves a spot among the best.
finney mainly has fought in 135 pd div . she only walks around 145 , yes maybe she has fought in a fight @ 155 but that was yrs ago and only due to fighting whenever they could , no matter if they were giving away a lot of weight. you obviously never watched the figfht if you thought cyborg and finney looked the same size . i saw a pic of then champ sarah kaufman @135 and cyborg champ@ 145 at a strikeforc e event and cyborg looked like she was 2-3 weight classes above sarah and sarah is a big 135 pder. i stand by what said there are lots of girls cyborgs size who they could match her up with . most women are not as fanatical about weight cutting as the men are. thats why you see alot of women having taken fights@ 145 , its because the opportunities to get fights are so rare that they will take fights wwherever they can get them . hell frausto fought @ 135 , then got the decs in bellator @ 115 . sheila gaff has fought @ 145 and is going to compete for the 125 pd title in bamma . it is mainly only the last couple of yrs that the ladies are starting to cut weight. once cyborg came on the scene they realized giving away 20-30 pds is just too much , when other skills are comparable
