Golden Glory: Marloes Coenen Will Fight At Glory 12Marloes Coenen will indeed compete at Ultimate Glory 12 on October 16th in Amsterdam, Holland, just seven days after she challenges Strikeforce Women’s Welterweight (135-Pound) Champion Sarah Kaufman. Coenen’s participation came into question earlier this month, but Golden Glory trainer Martijn de Jong insists that it was all a misunderstanding.

No opponent has yet been named for Coenen’s Glory 12 fight and changes may be required should Coenen suffer an injury in the fight with Kaufman. She will face Kaufman for the title at Strikeforce: “Diaz vs Noons 2.”

Coenen (17-4-0) has been the subject of much discussion over the past two months as plans for her future have changed or been updated. She verbally agreed to take part in the inaugural Strikeforce 135-pound women’s tournament and was then tentatively slated to rematch Cindy “Battlecat” Dandois at 145 pounds. Both plans were scrapped when Strikeforce announced Coenen as the new number one contender for Kaufman’s 135-pound title. Coenen has not fought since losing a January 145-pound title fight with Strikeforce Women’s Middleweight Champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos.

According to de Jong, Coenen’s comments earlier this month regarding her participation on the Glory 12 card were misconstrued. In fact, he has stated that Coenen was not referring to the Glory 12 event at all and was instead discussing a cancelled flight into Amsterdam from where she was staying in Spain. Golden Glory is officially advertising Coenen’s participation for Glory 12 and an opponent should be known in the coming weeks. Coenen will have little time to prepare for the second fight after she takes on Kaufman on October 9th in San Jose, California.

De Jong posted earlier this month that Coenen had been scheduled to compete at Strikeforce: Houston on August 21st, but as first reported by MMARising.com, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker denies those claims and has stated that Coenen was never set to fight on the Houston card. Coenen herself later stated that “Houston [was] cancelled,” though she did not specify whether she was referring to a fight on the card or a flight to Houston to attend the event from cageside.

Regardless, she will have a busy month in October with two fights scheduled in a seven-day span.

Ultimate Glory 12 takes place on October 16th at Passenger Terminal Amsterdam in Amsterdam, Holland. The event features the first round of the FTP Glory Kickboxing & MMA World Series. The semi-finals will take place in February, with the finals to follow in April.
