Fresh off of her 15-second flying armbar victory over Rosary Califano in February, Michelle “The Karate Hottie” Waterson returns to action on April 24th. Waterson will square off with Japanese veteran Masako Yoshida at “Spring Brawl” at the Urban Plains Center in Fargo, North Dakota.

Both Waterson and Yoshida suffered 2009 setbacks to undefeated Sovereign Nations MMA champ Elena “Babydoll” Reid, but Waterson’s highlight-reel armbar of Califano got her back on track. She will face a tough test against the much more experienced Yoshida, who has fought 37 times.

Waterson (7-3-0) rose to fame on the Muay Thai-themed “Fight Girls” reality show and debuted in mixed martial arts at Ring of Fire 28 in 2007. After winning four of her first six fights, she made her Strikeforce debut and submitted Tyra Parker in just 80 seconds. Splitting time between fighting and modelling, the photogenic star from Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts showed huge heart in her loss to former two-time boxing champion Reid and a victory over Yoshida could potentially set up a rematch down the line.

Yoshida (16-16-5) competed for a variety of promotions in Japan after debuting in mixed martial arts in 2003. With notable wins over “Windy” Tomomi Sunaba, Ayumi “Edge” Saito and Asami Kodera, Yoshida is a game opponent for any challenger, but she has lost back-to-back fights and needs an impressive win. She challenged Reid for the Sovereign Nations title at Extreme Beatdown: “Beatdown at 4 Bears 5” in October, but was defeated by TKO for the first time in her career.

While Waterson has stopped six of her opponents thus far, Yoshida is no stranger to going the distance and 19 of her fights have gone to the scorecards. Yoshida has been finished just five times and only by elite and ranked opposition. A three-round war could be in store when she clashes with Waterson in a bout that will be contested at 108 pounds.

“Spring Brawl” is presented by UFC heavyweight Chris Tuchscherer and takes place on April 24th at the Urban Plains Center in Fargo, North Dakota.
