Elena Reid To Defend SNMMA Title On April 17thFormer WIBA and IFBA Boxing Champion Elena “Babydoll” Reid will return to mixed martial arts action on April 17th. The talented striker will defend her Sovereign Nations MMA Women’s Flyweight Championship when she faces Alyx Luck at Playboy Fight Night in New Town, North Dakota.

Reid captured the title at Extreme Beatdown 5 last October by stopping Japanese veteran Masako Yoshida in the third round of their featured matchup. She has won all four of her MMA bouts to date by a form of knockout. Luck most recently competed for King of the Cage in February.

Reid (4-0-0) was set to challenge for the WBC Women’s Super Flyweight Championship in boxing in late February, but the bout was cancelled at the last minute due to complications with titleholder Ana María Torres. Instead, Reid will make the first defence of her title and look to keep her perfect MMA record intact when she battles Luck, who has fought four times since September.

Luck (2-2-0) is best known as the unfortunate victim of a highly controversial fight with Angelica Chavez. Luck was defeated by Chavez when the referee stopped the fight due to an armbar, though Luck did not submit and was not in any immediate danger. Luck put the controversial fight behind her and rebounded with a victory just three days later, but dropped her most recent fight for King of the Cage.

With both of Luck’s victories coming via strikes, the Wyoming native may be tempted to stand and trade punches with Reid, but as others such as Michelle Waterson have found out, that has not proven to be a winning strategy. Reid is one of the most technically sound boxers in mixed martial arts and has looked very impressive in each of her MMA fights thus far.

Playboy Fight Night takes place on April 17th at the 4 Bears Casino and Lodge in New Town, North Dakota. The SNMMA Women’s Flyweight Championship bout is expected to headline the event.
