Invicta Fighting Championships 16 Live Play-By-Play & ResultsInvicta Fighting Championships showcased its 16th all-female fight card tonight at Trinidad Pavilion at Tropicana Las Vegas in Las Vegas, Nevada. Invicta FC 16 was headlined by an atomweight championship bout between champion Ayaka Hamasaki and challenger Amber “The Bully” Brown.

In tonight’s co-main event, Vanessa Porto faced Jennifer Maia in a rematch for the Invicta FC Interim Flyweight Championship. Angela “Overkill” Hill battled Stephanie “Snowflake” Eggink in a featured strawweight contender’s bout. MMARising.com has live play-by-play for the Invicta FC 16 card.

 

Invicta FC Atomweight Championship

Ayaka Hamasaki vs Amber “The Bully” Brown

Round 1:
Referee for this fight is Chris Tognoni. Hamasaki jumped in with a quick one-two and she took Brown down seconds later. Hamasaki briefly passed to side control, but Brown regained guard. Hamasaki dropped hard punches from the top, but Brown trapped her in a triangle choke. She threw elbows from her back until Hamasaki escaped into side control. She secured a tight keylock that had Brown in trouble, but Brown refused to submit and she swept back into top position. Hamasaki maintained her grip on the hold, but Brown landed hammerfists from mount before time expired. 10-9 Brown.

Round 2:
The second round began with Brown landing a leg kick and Hamasaki replied with a step-in right hand. Brown clinched against the cage and threw knees to the body. She took Hamasaki down and punched from back control. Hamasaki countered with a kimura in a scramble and she wound up on top in Brown’s guard. Brown stayed busy from her back and worked for a triangle choke and a double armbar. She got the triangle choke, but Hamasaki narrowly made it to the bell. 10-9 Brown.

Round 3:
Hamasaki landed a nice one-two early in round three and Brown clinched with her against the cage. Hamasaki reversed a takedown and locked on another kimura on the ground. She used it to sweep into side control. Hamasaki moved to North-South position and then secured a tight armbar. Brown rolled through and tried to escape, but Hamasaki wrenched back on her right arm once again until Brown reluctantly tapped.

Winner: Ayaka Hamasaki by Submission (Armbar) at 2:52 of round three. She improves to 13-1-0 and remains the Invicta FC Atomweight Champion.

 

Invicta FC Interim Flyweight Championship

Jennifer Maia vs Vanessa Porto

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Mark Smith. The fighters traded leg kicks in the opening minute until Porto dropped Maia with an overhand right. Maia recovered and battled back to her feet. Porto landed knees in a brief clinch and both women landed right hands. Porto threw a head kick and a stiff jab. Big punches were exchanged and Porto countered a one-two with another overhand right. 10-9 Porto.

Round 2:
Porto landed more right hands over the top in the second round and Maia returned fire with a nice one-two. Porto kicked at her lead leg and also targeted the body. She took Maia down and held mount very briefly. Maia fought back to half-guard and she escaped from a Porto armbar attempt. Porto swept back into top position and she threw a diving punch from Maia’s guard. Maia tried for an armbar of her own, but Porto slammed her way free and followed with ground and pound. The fighters were stood up after an illegal upkick from Maia and Porto scored with a big right hook. She secured a takedown into mount and landed punches from the top. 10-9 Porto.

Round 3:
Maia opened round three with a combination that was met by a liver kick from Porto. She followed with a right hand and the fighters traded huge shots. Porto appeared to stun Maia, but Maia landed a knee to the body and Porto tried for a takedown. Maia defended well and broke free from the clinch. Porto resumed her assault with leg kicks, but Maia landed some solid right hands that forced Porto to shoot for a takedown. She wound up on the bottom and Maia avoided an armbar. She moved to a crucifix position and landed elbows. Porto scrambled and Maia tried for a guillotine choke. 10-9 Maia.

Round 4:
Maia fought off a takedown in the fourth round and both women landed standing elbows in close. Maia got the better of a striking exchange by landing quick punches. She tagged Porto with a combination, but Porto took her down. Maia locked on a tight armbar and Porto defended by trapping Maia’s head between her legs. Referee Mark Smith absurdly stood the fighters up and Maia rushed in with punches. Porto took her down before the bell. 10-9 Maia.

Round 5:
Maia held Porto against the cage in round five and landed short strikes in a clinch. Porto broke free and time was called to remove tape from her glove. Maia flurried with more punches and she reversed a takedown into a crucifix. The fighters scrambled up to their feet and Maia landed a combination. Porto caught a head kick and slammed Maia to the mat, but found herself trapped in a guillotine choke. Maia eventually released her grip and she tried for a kimura before the end of the fight. 10-9 Maia.

Judge Tony Weeks: 49-46 Maia. Judge Adalaide Byrd: 48-47 Maia. Judge Lester Griffon: 48-47 Maia.

Winner: Jennifer Maia by Unanimous Decision (49-46, 48-47, 48-47) after five rounds. She improves to 13-4-1 and becomes the Invicta FC Interim Flyweight Champion.

 

Angela “Overkill” Hill vs Stephanie “Snowflake” Eggink

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Kim Winslow. Hill caught two early kicks from Eggink and countered with right hands. She landed a right hook over the top and followed with another one soon after. Hill pinned Eggink against the cage, but Eggink broke free after landing a knee to the body. She threw front kicks to Hill’s midsection, but Hill answered back with another right hand. She backed Eggink up with quick punches and landed another overhand right late in the round. 10-9 Hill.

Round 2:
Hill established her jab in the second round, but Eggink landed a solid kick to the body. Hill pressed forward with a flurry and Eggink circled away. Right hands landed for Hill and she snapped Eggink’s head back with another jab. Hill landed a massive right hand that appeared to break Eggink’s nose. A badly dazed Eggink fell backwards to the mat and Hill landed two more punches before referee Kim Winslow finally stopped the fight.

Winner: Angela Hill by KO (Punch) at 2:36 of round two. She improves to 4-2-0.

 

Irene Aldana vs Jessamyn “The Gun” Duke

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Mark Smith. Aldana landed hard right hands and leg kicks early on. She continued to land punches and Duke threw occasional strikes from a distance. A right hook rocked Duke and she retreated to the cage. Aldana flurried to the body and Duke collapsed to the mat.

Winner: Irene Aldana by TKO (Punches) at 3:08 of round one. She improves to 6-2-0.

 

Roxanne “The Happy Warrior” Modafferi vs DeAnna “The Argentine Assassin” Bennett

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Chris Tognoni. Modafferi pressed the action right away and she landed a nice flurry. Bennett answered back with a combination, but Modafferi took her down. Bennett stood back up and slammed Modafferi down to the mat. She worked from the top with punches as Modafferi hunted for armbars and triangle chokes from her back. Bennett avoided the submission attempts and she landed short elbows in the final minute. 10-9 Bennett.

Round 2:
Modafferi landed a nice overhand right in the second round and she kept Bennett on the defensive with more punches. Both women attempted spinning attacks and Bennett came up short with a lunging flurry. She slipped while throwing a kick and Modafferi stuffed a takedown attempt. The fighters stood and Modafferi picked her shots with single punches and leg kicks. She continued to outstrike Bennett in the final minute until Bennett clinched at the bell. 10-9 Modafferi.

Round 3:
Modafferi continued to dictate the pace in the final round by pressuring Bennett with jabs and leg kicks. Bennett landed two stiff jabs, but Modafferi punished her lead leg with kicks. Bennett kept her back against the cage and Modafferi peppered her with one-twos and more leg kicks. Bennett’s nose began to bleed and Modafferi lunged in with jabs. She landed an overhand right and fought off a takedown. 10-9 Modafferi.

Judge Marcos Rosales: 29-28 Modafferi. Judge Patricia Morse Jarman: 29-28 Bennett. Judge Glenn Trowbridge: 29-28 Modafferi.

Winner: Roxanne Modafferi by Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29) after three rounds. She improves to 19-12-0.

 

Jinh Yu Frey vs Hérica Tibúrcio

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Kim Winslow. Tibúrcio kicked at Frey’s lead leg in the opening minute and Frey answered with one-twos. More kicks landed for Tibúrcio and Frey continued to strike from a distance. Tibúrcio tagged her with a nice right hand and she threw more leg kicks. Frey connected with a quick two-punch combination, but her right leg began to swell up from Tibúrcio’s kicks. Tibúrcio blocked a head kick and Frey countered a leg kick by landing a four-punch flurry before the bell. Very close opening round. 10-9 Frey by a slim margin.

Round 2:
Tibúrcio continued to score with leg kicks and right hands in the second round, but Frey connected with combinations and kicks of her own. Tibúrcio countered a kick by backing Frey up with a right hook. Frey regained her footing and she landed a straight left in return. Tibúrcio pressed forward and landed kick-punch combos, but Frey cracked her with three punches in return. She landed a body kick and floored Tibúrcio with a left cross just as the bell sounded. Another close round. 10-9 Frey due to the final punch.

Round 3:
Tibúrcio opened the final round with right-left combos and leg kicks that kept Frey on the defensive. Frey began to limp from the impact of Tibúrcio’s kicks, but she countered each kick with a left cross. This continued throughout the round as Frey remained content to counterstrike. She eventually stepped in and landed a solid two-punch combo that was answered by another Tibúrcio leg kick. Tibúrcio caught a body kick and tripped Frey shortly before the end of the round. 10-9 Tibúrcio.

Judge Adalaide Byrd: 30-27 Frey. Judge Junichiro Kamijo: 30-27 Frey. Judge Lester Griffin: 29-28 Frey.

Winner: Jinh Yu Frey by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) after three rounds. She improves to 5-1-0.

 

Sarah “The Monster” D’Alelio vs Andrea “KGB” Lee

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Chris Tognoni. Lee opened the action with a leg kick and a right hand, and D’Alelio fired back with a right hook of her own. Lee continued to score with kicks, but D’Alelio caught one and clinched briefly. Lee broke free and landed a jumping knee to the body. D’Alelio flurried with punches, but Lee pressed forward with a nice combination and a knee. D’Alelio cracked her with a hard right hand, but Lee answered back with more kicks. She chopped away at D’Alelio’s lead leg and backed her up with a big flurry. Lee landed knees and a lead left hook before time expired. 10-9 Lee.

Round 2:
D’Alelio jabbed in round two and Lee countered with lead hooks and one-twos. D’Alelio tried for a takedown and Lee stuffed it. D’Alelio shot in again and took Lee down. She tried for a Brabo choke, but Lee escaped to her feet. D’Alelio landed a right cross and Lee dove at her ankle. D’Alelio took her back in the process and she landed a big knee as Lee stood up. Lee took D’Alelio down, but D’Alelio countered with elbows from her back. She attacked with an armbar in the final 15 seconds. 10-9 D’Alelio.

Round 3:
Lee scored with body kicks in the final round and she fought off a clinch attempt by landing knees. She followed with a right hook and stunned D’Alelio with a flurry. Another big combination rocked D’Alelio, but she recovered enough to score a takedown. Lee kicked her off and scrambled up to her feet. She threw D’Alelio to the mat and struck with hammerfists. D’Alelio swept into top position and she postured for a kimura. Lee escaped, but she gave up her back in the process. D’Alelio locked on a rear-naked choke and Lee reluctantly tapped out.

Winner: Sarah D’Alelio by Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 4:21 of round three. She improves to 9-6-0.

 

Aspen Ladd vs “Killer” Kelly McGill

Round 1:
Referee for this fight is Mark Smith. Ladd rushed forward right away and pinned McGill against the clinch. She took her down into back control and flattened her out. McGill tried to scramble free, but Ladd kept her pinned down and she landed short punches and knees. Ladd looked to transition to an armbar and she switched to a rear-naked choke. McGill escaped, but Ladd punished her with elbows before the bell. 10-9 Ladd.

Round 2:
Ladd clinched again in round two and she landed knees to the body. McGill tried to throw her to the mat, but Ladd reversed on the way down. She took McGill’s back and landed numerous left hands. McGill regained full guard and Ladd dropped punches from the top. She stood over McGill and landed more punches until the referee stood McGill up. Ladd pressed forward with punches and took McGill down again. She looked to set up an armbar before the end of the round. 10-8 Ladd.

Round 3:
The fighters clinched once more in the final round and Ladd reversed another takedown attempt into McGill’s guard. She passed to half-guard and landed a barrage of elbows and hammerfists until the fight was stopped.

Winner: Aspen Ladd by TKO (Elbows & Punches) at 1:47 of round three. She improves to 3-0-0.

 

Ashley “Doll Face” Greenway vs Sarah “Switch Kick” Click

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Kim Winslow. Quick jabs and leg kicks were exchanged in the opening minute and Click struck from a distance. Greenway stepped in with a kick-punch combo and ate a flurry in return. Greenway threw two wild kicks and Click walked her down with punches and side kicks. Click countered Greenway’s kicks with a hard left hook. The fighters traded power punches before the bell. 10-9 Click, barely.

Round 2:
Greenway secured a brief clinch in the second round, but Click broke free and she landed a left hook. Hard leg kicks scored for Click and Greenway came up short with a rushing flurry. She connected with a spinning backfist soon after, but Click backed her up with lead left hands. The fighters traded hooks and Click got the better of the exchange. She stalked Greenway and landed punches and kicks to the face and body. Greenway backpedalled and Click scored with a nice combination. Greenway clinched before time expired. 10-9 Click.

Round 3:
Click continued to find success with lead left hooks and body kicks in the final round, but Greenway initiated and clinch and she took Click down. Greenway locked on a modified triangle choke and she transitioned to a straight armbar. Click defended and Greenway switched back to a triangle choke. She landed a series of short elbows to the side of Click’s head. Greenway wrenched back on Click’s right arm until the end of the fight. 10-9 Greenway. Close to a 10-8.
