Unbeaten Polish prospect Joanna Jędrzejczyk scored the biggest win of her MMA career tonight at “Fight Nights: Battle of Moscow 12” in Moscow, Russia. The multi-time Muay Thai champ outstruck Russian standout Julia Berezikova en route to an impressive Unanimous Decision victory.
Jędrzejczyk displayed excellent takedown and submission defence during the fight and she thwarted most of Berezikova’s attempts to take the fight to the ground. Jędrzejczyk mixed up her strikes well in both rounds and put together crisp combinations that kept her ahead on the judges’ scorecards.
Jędrzejczyk (4-0-0) and Berezikova (7-4-0) traded cautious punches in the early goings until Berezikova caught a body kick and tried for a takedown. Jędrzejczyk stuffed it and Berezikova rolled for a kneebar soon after. Jędrzejczyk pulled her leg free and the fighters traded kicks on the feet. Jędrzejczyk landed a nice combination and she scored with more leg kicks in the final minute.
Berezikova opened the action in round two with a combination, but Jędrzejczyk answered with a flurry and another solid leg kick. Berezikova got her down with a headlock throw and briefly moved to mount, but Jędrzejczyk reversed into top position and postured up in Berezikova’s guard. Berezikova attempted a triangle choke and an armbar from the bottom. Jędrzejczyk stood to escape and landed more kicks. She took Berezikova’s back seconds later, which prompted Berezikova to roll for another kneebar. She switched to a heel hook, but time expired.
After ten minutes, the judges were united and all three scored the fight 20-18 for Jędrzejczyk. Tonight’s victory was her second in a five-week span and fourth overall since her pro debut in May 2012.
Winner: Joanna Jędrzejczyk by Unanimous Decision (20-18, 20-18, 20-18) after two rounds. She improves to 4-0-0.
