Valkyrie Flyweight Championship

Yasuko Tamada vs Naoko Omuro

Tamada scored with punches and took Omuro down in the first round, then quickly worked to pass guard. She eventually moved to mount, then looked for a rear-naked choke when Omuro gave up her back, but Omuro managed to scramble and escaped before the bell. The second and third rounds were more of the same, as Tamada landed leg kicks and dominated Omuro on the ground. Armbar attempts and an arm-triangle choke nearly ended the fight for Tamada, but Omuro survived. Tamada added punches on the ground and left no doubt in the minds of the judges.

Winner: Yasuko Tamada by Unanimous Decision after three 5:00 rounds. She improves to 12-4-3 and becomes the first Valkyrie Flyweight Champion.

Rin Nakai vs Megumi Yabushita

Nakai battered Yabushita with a series of overhand rights in the opening round that left Yabushita on the defensive. She tried to take Nakai down, but Nakai stuffed the takedown and landed hammerfists near the cage. Nakai fought off an armbar attempt near the end of the round and resumed her ground assault in round two. She worked from side-control and landed punches, then mixed in knees to the body that forced Yabushita to scramble. Refusing to give up, Yabushita tried for submissions from the bottom, but Nakai easily evaded and landed more punches late in the final round.

Winner: Rin Nakai by Unanimous Decision after three 3:00 rounds. She improves to 7-0-0.

Ayame “Iris” Miura vs Mutsumi Kasai

Miura dominated the first round with takedowns and some solid strikes from the top. Kasai gamely battled back to her feet, only to be taken down again. The tide turned in round two, as Kasai took the fight to the ground early on and later reversed a throw from Miura. She looked to set up an armbar, but Miura escaped and regained control of the fight in round three. Miura landed kicks and scored a takedown, then worked for a submission from the top. She closed out the round with a barrage of punches that nearly ended the fight, but Kasai narrowly survived until the bell.

Winner: Ayame Miura by Unanimous Decision after three 3:00 rounds. She improves to 2-0-0.

Naho “Sugi Rock” Sugiyama vs Megumi Morioka

Round one was all Sugiyama, as she scored at will with punches and kicks as Morioka struggled badly to land any strikes at all. Sugiyama dictated the pace and kept well out of range of Morioka’s often wild counterstrikes. The second round was more of the same early on and Sugiyama landed a series of leg kicks. She countered a takedown attempt from Morioka and moved to mount. Morioka gave up her back and Sugiyama unloaded with punches until the referee stopped the fight.

Winner: Naho Sugiyama by TKO (Punches) at 2:20 of round two. She improves to 2-0-0.

“Butterfly Knife” Yuka vs Kimie “Sakura” Okada

Yuka dominated the opening three minutes of the two-round Novice Rules fight with quick punching combinations that kept Okada off-balance. Yuka landed kicks and knees as well and kept the pressure on in round two. The fight went to the ground and Yuka scored with punches from the top, then passed Okada’s guard and landed more strikes until the bell.

Winner: Yuka by Unanimous Decision after two 3:00 rounds. She improves to 1-0-0.

With Valkyrie crowning its second champion in Yasuko Tamada, the all-female division of Greatest Common Multiple continues to grow and will hold its next event in September. Rising Japanese star Rin Nakai kept her perfect record intact with a win over Megumi Yabushita and could be in line for a title fight in the future should she remain in Japan.
