Shoot Boxing Women’s Flyweight Champion Rena Kubota makes a quick return to action when she competes on November 11th at the 2016 Shoot Boxing World S-Cup in Tokyo, Japan. Kubota, who earned her second MMA win this past month, faces Brazilian star Kinberly Novaes in the main event.
Shoot Boxing officials announced the fight during a press conference today. Kubota, a four-time Girls S-Cup tournament winner, retained her 51kg title in July by stopping Klaudia Pawicka. Novaes, who has held multiple MMA titles, makes her shoot boxing debut in the featured fight next month.
Kubota (33-5-1 SB/KB; 2-0-0 MMA) is unquestionably the biggest female star on the Shoot Boxing roster, and her two recent MMA victories for Rizin Fighting Federation have broadened her fan base to a much larger audience. After winning her fourth Shoot Boxing Girls S-Cup tournament championship in 2014, Kubota added the women’s flyweight title to her collection the following year. She is slated to compete again for Rizin on New Year’s Eve, but first looks to extend her incredible 17-fight winning streak in shoot boxing with a big victory in next month’s headliner.
Novaes (0-0-0 SB; 9-2-0 MMA) rebounded from a decision loss to current UFC contender Juliana “Ju Thai” Lima in her pro MMA debut by winning six straight MMA bouts, including a dominant stoppage victory over fast-rising UFC standout Jéssica “Bate Estaca” Andrade. She is currently riding a three-fight winning streak in MMA, and most recently returned to the sport with a decision victory in early August following a lengthy hiatus after giving birth to her first child. Novaes now looks to duplicate the success of another MMA star, Jessica Penne, who upset Kubota in September 2011.
