With six new additions this week, eight bouts are now official for Invicta Fighting Championships 19 on September 23rd in Kansas City, Missouri. Bantamweight standout Irene Aldana takes on Faith “The Immortal” Van Duin in featured action on the card, which is headlined by two title fights.
Also confirmed for the event is the promotional debut of two-division Lion Fight Muay Thai champion Tiffany “Timebomb” Van Soest, who faces undefeated amateur standout Kalyn “.50 Kal” Schwartz. Manjit Kolekar battles Kaline “The Dark Angel” Medeiros in a 115-pound contender’s bout.
Aldana (6-2-0) began her Invicta FC career with back-to-back wins that led to a shot at the promotion’s bantamweight title in July 2015, but she was overwhelmed and stopped by reigning champion Tonya “Triple Threat” Evinger. After a lengthy hiatus, Aldana returned to action in March and dominated UFC veteran Jessamyn “The Gun” Duke en route to a first-round TKO triumph. She now finds herself one win away from a potential second bout with Evinger for the championship.
Van Duin (6-2-0) makes her Invicta FC bantamweight debut next month after challenging unsuccessfully for featherweight gold at Invicta FC 13. Her 145-pound title bid ended in a 45-second TKO loss to champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino, but Van Duin recently returned home to New Zealand in July and scored a Unanimous Decision victory that got her back on track. Now dropping down to 135 pounds for Invicta FC, she hopes to take a step towards a second title shot by upsetting Aldana next month.
In addition to the strawweight showdowns between Kolekar (9-0-0) and Medeiros (7-4-0), and Van Soest (0-1-0) and Schwartz (3-0-0 amateur), three more bouts round out the Invicta FC 19 preliminary card. Julia “Jewels” Jones (4-0-0) makes her long-awaited debut against Stephanie “The Scrapper” Skinner (4-5-0) at atomweight. In featherweight action, Amber Leibrock (1-1-0) returns to face Amy “Donkey Kong” Coleman (2-0-0). Ashley “Doll Face” Greenway (1-0-0) looks to stay unbeaten when she takes on Sunna “Tsunami” Rannveig Davíðsdóttir (4-1-0 amateur) in the strawweight card opener.
Invicta Fighting Championships 19 takes place on September 23rd at Kansas City Scottish Rite Temple in Kansas City, Missouri. The event is headlined by an Invicta FC Interim Flyweight Championship bout between Jennifer Maia and Roxanne “The Happy Warrior” Modafferi, and also features an Invicta FC Atomweight Championship matchup between Ayaka Hamasaki and Jinh Yu Frey.
