China’s top female MMA fighter, Jin “The Fighting Rose” Tang, looks for her fifth straight victory when she faces off against unbeaten Ukrainian prospect Marina Moroz at Kunlun Fight 8. The flyweight fight is set to take place on August 24th at the Xining Railway Station in Xining, Qinghai, China.
Kunlun Fight officials announced the bout this past weekend. Tang has won all three of her fights for the promotion this year and captured the Kunlun Fight women’s flyweight title in February. Moroz made a successful Kunlun Fight debut in June by upsetting highly-touted rising star Feier Huang.
Tang (19-5-3) is no stranger to facing Ukrainian opposition. She has squared off against five fighters from the Ukraine since May 2013 and has earned first-round submission victories in each fight. Though her background is in striking, Tang, who has also competed extensively in kickboxing, has finished most of her MMA opponents with submission holds. She has not lost since falling to TUF 20 competitor Justine Kish in November. Tang’s most recent fight, a planned rematch against Yana Lyashko at Kunlun Fight 7 on July 27th, was scrapped when Lyashko suffered a fractured arm in training.
Moroz (2-0-0) may enter the fight as an underdog, but she is unquestionably Tang’s toughest test since the November bout with Kish. Moroz kicked off her pro MMA career for the popular Oplot Challenge promotion in the Ukraine on November 23rd and picked up a second-round submission win over Yana Kuzioma. She was then brought in to face Kunlun Fight’s new breakout star, Huang, at Kunlun Fight 5. In a result that shocked the crowd in attendance, Moroz forced Huang to submit to an armbar midway through the first round. She now looks to earn an even bigger victory in two weeks.
