15-year-old “Muay Thai Genius” Saya Ito is set to face one of her most experienced opponents to date on August 12th at the prestigious Queen’s Cup event in Bangkok, Thailand. Ito takes on American foe Sylvie von Duuglas-Ittu, who has compiled an impressive fight résumé in the country.
The 46kg matchup was officially announced this past weekend. Ito, who captured countless titles during her amateur career, has already fought extensively in Thailand. Von Duuglas-Ittu has also faced many of Thailand’s top female fighters and she welcomes the fight with the Japanese prodigy.
Ito (78-12-3 amateur, 1-1-1 pro) tore through the competition during her lengthy amateur career, which included multiple title reigns in Japan and Thailand. The young striker turned pro in April and defeated South Korean prospect Hye-Young Park in a five-round battle. She fought again three weeks later, but dropped a close decision to former J-Girls champion Haru “Taj Mahal” Tajima. In her most recent bout, Ito took on another elite opponent and fought to a Majority Draw with reigning J-Girls Mini Flyweight Champion Momi at Muaylok 2014: 2nd on July 13th.
Von Duuglas-Ittu (44-25-3) is known for her devastating knees, which have led her to victory in many of her bouts in Thailand. The American fighter first began training in Thailand more than four years ago and she has since gone on to compete among the best during her 72-fight pro career. Von Duuglas-Ittu has already competed 15 times in 2014, winning ten of those bouts including six inside the distance. She campaigned for a fight on the prestigious Queen’s Cup card and now looks to pick up one of the biggest victories of her career next week.
The Queen’s Cup takes place on August 12th at Sanam Luang (Royal Field) in Bangkok, Thailand. The annual event is widely viewed as Thailand’s biggest fight card of the year for female Muay Thai fighters.
