Legacy FC women’s champion Holly “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holm has at last signed a deal to compete for the world’s largest mixed martial arts organisation. The world-renowned former boxing superstar’s UFC signing was announced on Thursday and she may debut as early as this fall.
Talks between Holm’s manager and UFC brass broke down earlier this year when the two sides could not come to an agreement. However, with few title challengers remaining for UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey, the UFC now looks to Holm as a threat to Rousey’s crown.
Holm (7-0-0) was widely regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound female boxers in the world during her 11-year career that saw her compile a stellar record of 33-2-3. She officially retired from boxing this past year in order to pursue a full-time career in MMA. Thus far, Holm has dominated all seven of her opponents, but she has yet to face any UFC calibre foes. In her most recent fight, and biggest MMA win to date, Holm captured the Legacy FC women’s bantamweight title in April by stopping fellow striker Juliana “Julie” Werner at Legacy FC 30.
While her striking skills are well-documented, Holm’s ground game remains a complete mystery and she now joins a UFC division that is full of skilled grapplers beyond just its champion, Rousey. Holm has knocked out six of her seven opponents to date, utilising kicks to wear down and finish most of her victims, and she will look to continue her path of carnage en route to a UFC title shot.
A date has not yet been announced for Holm’s much-anticipated UFC debut, but the New Mexico native may be ready to compete before the end of this year.
Germaine de Randaime vs Holly Holm anyone?
I agree, Germaine is the best matchup.
