Amanda Nunes vs Alexis Dufresne Planned For UFC On FOX 11A second women’s bantamweight bout between Amanda “Lioness” Nunes and Alexis Dufresne has been added to UFC on FOX 11: “Werdum vs Browne” on April 19th in Orlando, Florida. Globo first reported on plans for the matchup between Nunes and UFC newcomer Dufresne on Saturday.

Nunes has posted a pair of quick and impressive first-round TKO victories in both of her UFC appearances to date and she has won three of her past four fights overall. California’s Dufresne remains unbeaten in her five-fight MMA career and she has yet to see the second round as a professional.

Nunes (9-3-0) has been well-known to fight fans since her January 2011 Strikeforce debut when she knocked out top featherweight contender Julia “The Jewel” Budd in just 14 seconds. The hard-hitting Brazilian dropped back down to 135 pounds following the bout with Budd and suffered a tough loss to current UFC title contender Alexis “Ally-Gator” Davis, but she has gotten back on track with key wins in recent fights. In August, Nunes made her Octagon debut at UFC 163 and mauled Sheila “The German Tank” Gaff en route to a first-round stoppage. She most recently finished Germaine “The Iron Lady” de Randamie in short order at UFC Fight Night 31.

Dufresne (5-0-0) remains young in her MMA career, but she has thus far torn through the competition with five first-round victories. After opening her pro career with back-to-back submission wins in 2012, Dufresne returned to action in November and stopped Kathlina Brown with a barrage of punches. Two months later, she dispatched of Catalina Madril in similar fashion. In her most recent fight this past month, Dufresne destroyed an overmatched Kim “Sugar Free” Couture in just 45 seconds. The three quick TKO victories earned Dufresne a spot on the UFC roster and she looks for her biggest win to date when she battles Nunes next month.

UFC on FOX 11: “Werdum vs Browne” takes place on April 19th at Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. The card also features a bout between former UFC title challengers Miesha “Cupcake” Tate and Liz “Girl-Rilla” Carmouche.

  1. Honestly, “destroyed” and “overmatched” fit perfectly what happened between Alexis Dusfrene and Kim Couture… that was really hard to watch.

  2. Bit of a step up from Kim Couture to Amanda Nunes. However, I do think Nunes is a bit overrated. Hopefully Dufresne at 5-0 will step in with some confidence. First time in the UFC is always nerve wracking I’m sure.

  3. I think Nunes could actually do better. She completely controlled Alexis Davis the first round they fought, and, IMO, lost the second because she gassed.

She also hits harder than most 135 lbers.

D’Alelio exposed her weakness to wrestling, though.

Dusfrene seems to be a beast, but let’s see how she stacks to Amanda’s striking.

  4. Hey Rafael,

I just looked at Dufresne beating Couture and man was she impressive. Not just beating Kim (who will most likely retire now), but her attitude, frame, and speed. I am really looking forward to Dufresne in the UFC, and against Nunes the first time will be killer.
