Lauren Murphy vs Miriam Nakamoto Title Fight Set For Invicta FC 7The inaugural Invicta FC Bantamweight Championship is up for grabs on December 7th at Invicta Fighting Championships 7 in Kansas City, Missouri. Unbeaten rising star Lauren Murphy takes on multi-time Muay Thai world champion “The Queen of Mean” Miriam Nakamoto for the 135-pound title.

Invicta FC officials announced the fight today. Murphy stepped in on short notice for her Invicta FC debut in April and she has scored back-to-back wins for the promotion. Nakamoto earned a dominant first-round stoppage victory over ex-boxing champ “Diamond” Duda Yankovich at Invicta FC 6.

Murphy (7-0-0) began her career as a featherweight in her home state of Alaska and knocked out four straight opponents. Along the way, she captured titles for both Alaska Fighting Championship and Alaska Cage Fighting. In March, Murphy made her Legacy FC debut as a last-minute replacement and battered Jennifer “Superstar” Scott with elbows en route to a first-round stoppage. She upset Kaitlin Young at Invicta FC 5 and scored her biggest win to date by outpointing Sarah “The Monster” D’Alelio at Invicta FC 6. She now receives an opportunity to add another title to her collection.

Nakamoto (2-0-0, 1 NC) is widely regarded as one of the very best female strikers in the world today. The eight-time world champion sports a 16-0 record in Muay Thai. Since making the move to MMA in September 2012, Nakamoto has looked very impressive in each of her three fights. She made her Invicta FC debut in April and knocked out current TUF 18 contestant Jessamyn “The Gun” Duke in the first round. However, the result of the fight was later overturned as a result of an illegal knee. Nakamoto returned to action in July and mauled Yankovich en route to a one-sided TKO victory.

Invicta Fighting Championships 7 takes place on December 7th at Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, Missouri.

  1. Winner gets a UFC contract? Just like TUF! Sort of a meaningless belt when all the top 135 fighters are in UFC and Invicta has like three bantamweights. And two wins get you a title shot?

  2. It says Miriam has a 16-0 muay thai record and is an 8 time world chamption. Plus she’s obliterated her MMA competition. She not only deserves a title shot, but will probably be favored. I think Invicta knows what their doing.
