Glena “Heartless” Avila has stepped in on short notice to face off against fellow strawweight prospect Amber “The Apex Predator” Stautzenberger at Dakota Fighting Championships 15 on April 20th in Fargo, North Dakota. The revised 115-pound matchup was officially announced earlier today.
Avila replaces Stautzenberger’s original foe, Jordan Nicole “Ninja Princess” Gaza, who withdrew from the card earlier this week. Avila looks to rebound from her first career defeat, a razor-thin Split Decision loss in October, while Stautzenberger seeks her third straight victory after two key wins this year.
Avila (2-1-0) amassed a stellar 6-0 record as an amateur before transitioning to the professional ranks in June 2011. She earned armbar submission victories in her first two pro bouts and had planned to face Gaza at Dakota FC 13 in October. When Gaza withdrew from that card, Avila instead faced Jackson’s MMA fighter Emily Kagan. After three close rounds, the cageside judges awarded Kagan with a close and somewhat contentious Split Decision victory. Avila now steps in to face another tough opponent under the Dakota FC banner and looks to begin a new winning streak at Stautzenberger’s expense.
Stautzenberger (2-1-0) has quickly made a name for herself in the 115-pound women’s division since turning pro this past September. Her professional debut ended in a very close decision defeat against “12 Gauge” Paige VanZant, but Stautzenberger has since rallied back with a pair of impressive wins this year. In January, she needed just 67 seconds to submit former amateur standout Summer Artherton at Dakota FC 14. On March 23rd, she earned a dominant Unanimous Decision victory over Ashley Allen at Xtreme Knockout 18. In addition to the April 20th bout with Avila, Stautzenberger is also scheduled to face Soannia Tiem on May 18th.
Dakota Fighting Championships 15 takes place on April 20th at Scheels Arena in Fargo, North Dakota.
