Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist Ediane “India” Gomes has suffered an injury in training and is out of her Invicta Fighting Championships 5 bout against former Strikeforce Women’s Featherweight Champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos. The fight had been set for April 5th in Kansas City, Missouri.
MMARising.com learned of Gomes’s injury earlier today. MMAjunkie.com reported on additional details this afternoon. A timetable for Gomes’s return to action is not yet known. Santos currently awaits a replacement opponent on the card and the promotion has yet to make an official statement.
Gomes (10-2-0) had looked to pick up her third straight win inside the Invicta FC cage and fifth overall when she faced Santos (10-1-0, 1 ND), but the untimely injury has forced her out of arguably the biggest fight of her career. Santos is expected to remain on the card against an opponent to be determined. The hard-hitting former Strikeforce titleholder will be competing for the first time since December 2011 when she was fined and suspended for one year by the California State Athletic Commission after testing positive for a stanozolol metabolite following her quick victory over Hiroko “Cat’s Eye” Yamanaka.
At present, there are two additional featherweight fights scheduled to take place on the Invicta FC 5 card. In one, Julia “The Jewel” Budd faces Fiona Muxlow. Veronica “The Heartbreaker” Rothenhausler battles “Miss” Mollie Estes in the other. It is not yet known whether one of the four competitors will be matched up against Santos on the event’s main card.
Invicta Fighting Championships 5 takes place on April 5th at the Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, Missouri. The event is headlined by a pair of championship fights.

Wow i wondered how long it would be until cyborgs opponent dropped out,no one wants to be the first to face cyborg, when she is pissed and wanting to prove she is the fiercest woman fighter
Robbyedwards…you’re an idiot. India Gomes was ready to murder Cyborg.
Ediene Gomes barely edged Hiroko Yamanaka, and they looked in the same ballpark, strength and skill-wise.
We saw what happened when Hiroko fought Cyborg.
Also, we saw what happened when Ediene Gomes fought Amanda Nunes…
Cyborg has superior jiu jitsu, wrestling and would murder Ediene Gomes standing.
