Brazilian standouts Carina “Beauty But The Beast” Damm and Claudia “Claudinha” Gadelha are set to face off in a featured women’s matchup at Legacy Fighting Championship 13 on August 17th at the Dallas Convention Center in Dallas, Texas. Legacy FC officials announced the bout today.
Damm has not fought since earning a first-round submission victory in July. She was set to face Bellator champ Zoila “The Warrior Princess” Gurgel in November, but the bout was scrapped when Gurgel tore her ACL. Gadelha took a Split Decision win over Valérie Létourneau earlier this month.
Damm (17-6-0) enjoyed a quick rise to stardom early in her career with notable wins over Vanessa Porto, Miku Matsumoto and Jessica Aguilar, but she has encountered ups and downs since testing positive for steroids following an April 2008 victory in California. At home in her native Brazil, Damm continues to dominate her opponents. Since July 2008, she has won all eight of her bouts in Brazil, but she remains winless in three appearances in the U.S. during that time. In August 2010, Damm entered the one-night Strikeforce women’s tournament and was submitted in the second round. She suffered subsequent setbacks to Cat Zingano and Tara LaRosa before scoring back-to-back wins at home. Damm now faces off against her country’s top female prospect in an all-Brazil showdown in August.
Gadelha (7-0-0) also built up a name for herself in her home country, winning her first six fights and ending five of them inside the distance. She took over a year off from MMA competition following a September 2010 victory, but remained active in grappling. This past Friday, Gadelha returned to action for her first fight outside of Brazil. Despite a late change in opponent, Gadelha earned a Split Decision victory over local favourite Valérie Létourneau at Wreck MMA: “Road To Glory” in Gatineau, Québec, Canada. The talented 23-year-old now takes on her toughest test to date against contrywoman Damm.
