A planned women’s bout between Sanja Sučević and Bethany Marshall has been scrapped from Super Fight League 2 on April 7th in Chandigarh, India. Spanish prospect Karla Benitez now faces off against one-time Strikeforce competitor Colleen “The Beautiful Disaster” Schneider on the card.
The promotion revealed the change on its official website on Thursday. No reason was given for the Sučević-Marshall bout’s cancellation, though the size disparity may have played a factor. Benitez is coming off of a December loss to Megumi “Mega Megu” Fujii, while Schneider last fought in June.
Benitez (6-2-0, 1 NC) reigned undefeated through her first seven bouts and scored notable wins over Sučević and England’s Simona Soukupova this past year. Benitez remains the only woman to have defeated either fighter to date. In October, Benitez expected to face off against Finland’s Maiju Kujala, but when Kujala was forced out of the bout, she battled another Finnish prospect, Katja Kankaanpää, and dropped a Unanimous Decision. Maintaining an active schedule, Benitez returned to the ring in December for her toughest to date against Fujii, but she suffered a quick submission loss at the hands of the Japanese dynamo and now looks to get back on track next weekend.
Schneider (1-3-0) enjoyed a successful career as an amateur before joining the professional ranks in 2010. She has encountered mixed success since then, with losses in her first two pro bouts against fellow Strikeforce veterans Sarah “The Monster” D’Alelio and Liz “Girl-Rilla” Carmouche. The latter defeat came during the one-night Strikeforce women’s tournament in August 2010. Schneider rebounded with a 17-second TKO victory this past May, but she was submitted by Vanessa Mariscol in round three of a BlackEye Promotions 4 showdown one month later. Like Benitez, Schneider has something to prove as she makes her Super Fight League debut and looks to pick up her second victory as a professional.
Super Fight League 2 takes place on April 7th at the T-Box Mobile Arena in Chandigarh, India. The bout between Benitez and Schneider is currently scheduled to serve as the co-main event.
