Tyron Woodley vs Jordan Mein Targeted For January 7thWelterweight prospects Tyron “T-Wood” Woodley and Jordan “Young Gun” Mein will face off in a featured matchup at Strikeforce: “Rockhold vs Jardine” on January 7, 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker officially announced plans for the 170-pound showdown earlier today.

Woodley remains unbeaten in his pro career and has posted seven victories inside the Strikeforce cage. His most recent win came against former title challenger Paul “Semtex” Daley in July. Mein had won nine of his past ten fights leading into his successful Strikeforce debut on September 10th.

Woodley (9-0-0), a standout wrestler whose striking and ground game have continued to improve, has been regarded as one of the top welterweight prospects in Strikeforce for nearly two years. He secured finishes in six of his first seven fights and has since posted back-to-back decision victories over rival Tarec “Sponge” Saffiedine and Daley. Woodley is believed to be one win away from a Strikeforce Welterweight Championship bout, which may come against Saffiedine if both he and Woodley are victorious on the January 7th card.

Mein (23-7-0) made a name for himself on the regional scene in his native Canada, but it was not until early this year that fans and media alike began to take notice of the Albertan’s talents. After wins over UFC veterans Joe Riggs and Josh Burkman, Mein was matched up against DREAM Welterweight Champion Marius “The Whitemare” Zaromskis at the inaugural Score Fighting Series event in June. He notched a Unanimous Decision victory and signed with Strikeforce soon after. In September, Mein stopped Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos with a barrage of elbows in the third round.

Strikeforce: “Rockhold vs Jardine” takes place on January 7, 2012 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event is headlined by a Strikeforce Middleweight Championship bout between Luke Rockhold and “The Dean of Mean” Keith Jardine.
