José Aldo To Defend Against Chad Mendes At UFC 142UFC Featherweight Champion José “Scarface” Aldo will make the next defence of his title against Chad “Money” Mendes at UFC 142 on January 14, 2012 in Brazil. The bout, which was first reported by FoxSports.com tonight, is expected to take place at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro.

Aldo has picked up five-round Unanimous Decision victories in each of his two Octagon appearances since debuting in the UFC in April. Earlier this month, he defeated Kenny “KenFlo” Florian at UFC 136. Mendes remains unbeaten in his pro career and has also won twice in the UFC this year.

Aldo (20-1-0) has won 13 straight fights since his lone career defeat nearly six years ago. He became WEC Featherweight Champion on November 18, 2009 by stopping then-champion Mike Brown with punches in the second round and went on to defend the title two more times before joining the UFC roster. At UFC 129 in April, Aldo survived a shaky final round to defeat Mark “The Machine” Hominick and most recently dispatched of Florian in a competitive but at times inactive fight. Also has knocked out seven of his last ten opponents, and 12 overall.

Mendes (11-0-0) has faced criticism throughout his WEC and UFC tenures for his fighting style, but he has thus far stifled the offence his opponents with his strong wrestling skills. Mendes has finished just one of his last seven opponents. His takedowns and top control are among the best in the featherweight division, however, and he could snatch the title from Aldo if he is able to avoid the Brazilian’s powerful strikes. Aldo appeared to struggle off of his back against Hominick and Mendes will likely look to take the champion down early and often in their fight.

UFC 142 is expected to take place on January 14, 2012 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
