Carina Damm, Luis Santos Added To Amazon Fight 8 CardCarina “Beauty But The Beast” Damm and husband Luis “Sapo” Santos will both compete at Amazon Fight 8 on May 27th in Belém, Brazil. Damm will face newcomer Deize “Gorilla” in one bout, while Santos battles rival Carlos Alexandre “Índio” Pereira in a rematch from their December 2007 fight.

Damm is currently in the midst of a three-fight losing streak where she has been stopped by divisional standouts Hitomi Akano, Cat Zingano and Tara LaRosa. Prior to the losing skid, she had won ten straight fights. Santos has won 11 of his last 12 fights, with the lone defeat coming via Split Decision.

Damm (15-6-0) has performed very well in her native Brazil, but has struggled when competing outside of her home country. She has lost just one time in Brazil, in a bout with Ana Michelle Tavares over five years ago. However, she has encountered criticism for facing inexperienced Brazilian opponents, and the May 27th bout will do little to silence her critics. Her latest foe, Deize “Gorilla,” hails from the state of Pará and may therefore enjoy a sizable fan following for the fight in the region’s capital city of Belém. However, she will be making her MMA debut against a very experienced opponent who has travelled the world and faced many of the sport’s best.

The rematch between Santos (48-6-0) and Pereira (23-9-0) is a much more competitive fight, as the pair fought to a three-round decision in late 2007 that went Pereira’s way. The fighters have 54 credited finishes between them, and both prefer to end their fights with vicious strikes. Santos has yet to lose in Amazon Fight, and Pereira won his promotional debut by one-punch knockout in October. The talented fighters will now square off for a second time, to settle the score from over three years ago.

Amazon Fight 8 will take place on May 27th in Belém, Pará, Brazil. News of all fights planned for the card was first posted by Tatame earlier today.
