Multi-time boxing champion Holly “Hottie” Holm is expected to return to the cage for her second mixed martial arts bout on September 2nd for Fresquez Productions in Albuquerque, New Mexico. MMARising.com confirmed plans for the September fight with promoter Lenny Fresquez earlier today.
An opponent has not yet been determined form Holm, who impressed in her MMA debut earlier this month. Facing a formidable opponent in Wisconsin’s Christina “Machine Gun” Domke, Holm showed crisp boxing and impressive takedown defence before stopping Domke with leg kicks in round two.
Holm (1-0-0 MMA; 29-1-3 Boxing), one of many elite female athletes who have recently transitioned to MMA from other combat sports, proved in her March 4th debut that she was more than just a striker. Having trained extensively at Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts in Albuquerque, Holm successfully thwarted most of Domke’s takedown attempts and quickly battled back to her feet when Domke finally took her down. On the feet, Holm had a clear advantage and picked her shots with accurate punches and leg kicks that took their toll as the fight wore on.
In the later stages of the second round, Holm landed one final leg kick that dropped Domke to the mat and ended the fight, though Holm was self-critical of the fight’s finish. Typically used to standing eight counts after knockdowns, Holm walked away from her downed opponent rather than diving in for the finish; a mental lapse that she stated would not happen again.
As arguably the top pound-for-pound female boxer in the world, Holm is already regarded by many as the future of MMA’s 135-pound women’s division. She will remain in Albuquerque for the September bout, which will again take place under the Fresquez Productions banner at the Route 66 Casino.
