Strikeforce: No Plans For September EventDespite rumours to the contrary earlier today, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker tells MMARising.com that his promotion is not currently planning any events for the month of September. Reports today suggested that Strikeforce may return to Kansas City or elsewhere in the Midwest on September 17th.

The current Strikeforce schedule continues this Saturday with Strikeforce: Houston at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, and the promotion will return to its home base of San Jose, California on October 9th. Strikeforce Challengers 11 will take place on October 23rd in Fresno, California.

Last week, MMAjunkie.com reported that the October 9th event at the HP Pavilion in San Jose will feature the opening round of a Strikeforce Middleweight Tournament. The exact format of the tournament has yet to be determined, though Coker previously expressed an interest in showcasing an eight-man field. Should that happen, the tournament will be held over a minimum of two events, with the winner moving on to challenge for the promotion’s 185-pound title. Tim Kennedy and Ronaldo “Jacaré” Souza will battle for the vacant belt this Saturday.

The promotion will later make its return to the city of Fresno, California for the eleventh edition of the Strikeforce Challengers Series on October 23rd. No bouts have been confirmed for the card yet, but Coker did confirm the date and location. Strikeforce has held four events at the Save Mart Center in Fresno dating back to October 2006, and the city has become a staple for Challengers Series events.
