Two of the top female bantamweights in the sport will collide this Saturday when Adrienna “AJ” Jenkins takes on Tonya Evinger in the co-main event at Raging Wolf 8: “Cage Supremacy.” The fight will serve as a number one contender’s bout, with the winner moving on to challenge Raging Wolf champ Alexis Davis at an upcoming event.
Jenkins was most recently defeated by Shayna “The Queen of Spades” Baszler in the finals of the FCF Women’s Grand Prix, while Evinger faced Davis in May, but fell victim to a third-round submission.
Jenkins (17-4-0) took a big step up in competition when she joined the FCF tournament in January and rallied after a shaky start to submit Sarah “White Tiger” Schneider in their opening-round bout. Jenkins met recent Strikeforce signee Jan “Cuddles” Finney in the second round and dropped a close Split Decision in a competitive fight, but received an opportunity to fight again in the finals after Finney joined the Strikeforce ranks. Now looking to rebound from a two-fight slide, Jenkins could earn herself a Raging Wolf title shot with a win on Saturday.
Evinger (7-4-0) is perhaps best known for her September 2007 appearance for EliteXC when she faced promotional postergirl Gina “Conviction” Carano at EliteXC: “Uprising.” While she came up short in the fight, Evinger later put together a three-fight winning streak that included victories over Julie “Fireball” Kedzie and the aforementioned Schneider. Evinger and Schneider have verbally clashed on many occasions dating back to when both lived in Missouri. Evinger now resides in Sacramento, California and trains alongside Michelle Ould at Urijah Faber’s Ultimate Fitness gym.
With both fighters looking to get back on the winning track, and both no longer battling ring rust, the contender’s bout this Saturday should be a solid fight that determines a qualified challenger for the Raging Wolf Women’s Flyweight (135-Pound) Championship held by Davis.
Raging Wolf 8: “Cage Supremacy” emanates from the Seneca Allegany Casino & Hotel in Salamanca, New York. The event is headlined by a Raging Wolf Welterweight Championship bout between veteran journeyman Nuri Shakir and Allen Arzeno.
