Thiago Alves vs Jon Fitch Rematch Postponed Once AgainAn on-again, off-again rematch between welterweight standouts Thiago “Pitbull” Alves and Jon Fitch has once again been postponed. The planned bout, which has already been pushed back on three occasions, will now take place at UFC 117. MMAFighting.com first reported on the change.

The latest postponement stems from recent surgery that Alves underwent in order to correct a minor irregularity in his brain. The issue was discovered during pre-fight testing for his scheduled rematch with Fitch at UFC 115. Fitch went on to defeat late replacement Ben “Killa B” Saunders.

After the bout was scrapped from the UFC 111 card, Fitch (22-3-0, 1 NC) and Alves (16-6-0) were then slated to face off at UFC 115 in June. However, the promotion has opted to allow Alves additional time to recover to ensure that he is at 100% for the fight. Both Fitch and Alves came up short in five-round title bouts with UFC Welterweight Champion Georges “Rush” St. Pierre and a win for either could set up another title shot down the line.

UFC 117 has not been officially announced, but is expected to take place on August 7th at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California. A UFC Middleweight Championship bout between Anderson “The Spider” Silva and Chael Sonnen will headline.
