Update: Amanda Bucker Now Plans Fall ReturnWhile first hoped to be returning to mixed martial arts in May for Freestyle Cage Fighting, female bantamweight star Amanda Buckner will remained sidelined until this Fall as she continues her recovery after successful ACL surgery. Buckner confirmed the update with MMARising.com on Friday.

A tentative plan had been in place for Buckner to make her long-awaited return at FCF 42 on May 22nd in New Hampshire after a two-year absence from the sport. However, she will not be cleared to compete in time and aims to be a part of an October card for the promotion.

An FCF official confirmed on March 17th that Buckner (11-5-1) would indeed be a part of the May FCF 42 event, but MMARising.com has since learned that Buckner’s participation on the card was tentative and pending medical clearance to compete. Buckner was first set to be a part of the opening round of the Freestyle Cage Fighting Women’s Bantamweight Grand Prix in January, but suffered a torn ACL in training and underwent surgery shortly before the tournament began.

Buckner is currently recovering from the successful surgery on her knee and expects to be cleared to return to full-time training by July. Though she had hoped to be able to fight in May, she has confirmed that she will definitely not be on the FCF 42 card. Buckner is now targeting an early October bout, likely for Freestyle Cage Fighting, and a number of potential challengers have already expressed interest in facing the former divisional star when she returns to MMA after over two and a half years away.

MMARising.com regrets the inaccuracies reported in the March 17th article detailing Buckner’s return plans. We apologise for the error and look forward to seeing her back in MMA action later this year.
