Chan Sung Jung Signs Six-Fight Deal With WECKorean standout Chan Sung Jung has signed a six-fight deal with World Extreme Cagefighting. The highly-touted Sengoku veteran, known as “The Korean Zombie,” may debut for the promotion as soon as WEC 48 on April 24th, which airs live on pay-per-view.

Known primarily as a submission specialist, Jung entered the Sengoku Featherweight Grand Prix last year, but suffered his first loss in a razor-thin decision against eventual champion Masanori “Kin-chan” Kanehara. Korean Top Team confirmed Jung’s WEC signing today.

Jung (10-1-0) reigned undefeated through his first nine fights and holds a 2008 victory over Sengoku tournament semi-finalist Michihiro Omigawa. Six of Jung’s victories have come by submission, but he has also stopped two opponents with strikes, including a 17-second knockout of Fanjin Son at DEEP: “39th Impact.” Despite the setback against Kanehara, Jung rebounded with an impressive victory over Matt “Jagger Bomb” Jaggers at Sengoku: “Ninth Battle” in August.

Immediately establishing himself as one to watch, Jung became a fan favourite in last year’s Sengoku Featherweight Grand Prix with a wide array of submissions and high-paced action. His close bout with Kanehara was one of the best fights to take place in the promotion to date and his relentless offence will no doubt endear him to the WEC’s North American fans. Already one of the top prospects in South Korea, Jung will now look to become a contender in the WEC.

A bout with Cub Swanson at WEC 48 is rumoured for Jung’s debut.
