Bobby Lashley Signs With StrikeforceThe Strikeforce heavyweight division continues to grow, and professional wrestler and undefeated rising MMA star Bobby “The Dominator” Lashley is the latest addition to the promotion’s ranks. He is set to make his Strikeforce debut at Strikeforce: Miami on January 30th.

Easily one of the most powerful heavyweights in the sport, Lashley is also one of the most agile and he has thus far looked impressive in four bouts. Now looking to take a big step up in competition, Lashley, who still performs in pro wrestling, will face tough tests in Strikeforce.

Lashley (4-0-0) rose to fame in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), where he held promotional titles on multiple occasions. He left the company amidst rumours of racism among backstage producers and opted to pursue a career in mixed martial arts. He has remained undefeated through four fights and has taken gradual steps up in competition with each bout.

After defeating Joshua Franklin via doctor stoppage due to a cut in December of 2008, Lashley earned a hard-fought decision over journeyman gatekeeper Jason Guida in March. He followed it up with an extremely impressive 24-second win over Mike “The Animal” Cook at MFC 21 in May. Lashley choked Cook unconscious with a powerful front choke.

Most recently, Lashley stopped former K-1 star and current DREAM competitor Bob “The Beast” Sapp with first-round punches in June. Lashley currently performs in Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling, but has stated in the past that he will move to MMA full-time if he is forced to choose.

It remains to be seen whether Strikeforce will permit Lashley to continue his involvement in professional wrestling, but the addition of Lashley to the promotion’s heavyweight division will make for some interesting and intriguing fights.

Strikeforce: Miami takes place on January 30, 2010 at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida.
