Sokoudjou To Face Gegard Mousasi

Sokoudjou To Face Gegard Mousasi On CBSOne day after it was confirmed that Gegard Mousasi would compete on the debut Strikeforce card on CBS, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou has emerged as Mousasi’s opponent for the November 7th event at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The light heavyweight bout will be a non-title fight.

The two were originally set to meet in the DREAM Super Hulk Tournament, but Mousasi withdrew due to injury. He will be ready to take on Sokoudjou in November and will look to once again establish himself as one of the top fighters in the sport today.

Sokoudjou (7-4-0) has rebounded with two victories after losing three of four bouts over a 13-month span. No longer the feared fighter that he was after back-to-back knockouts of top-10 light heavyweights Ricardo Arona and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Sokoudjou has a long way to go to get back to the top.

Currently set to battle Ikuhisa Minowa in the finals of the DREAM Super Hulk Tournament, Sokoudjou will return to the United States to take on Mousasi, who is quickly becoming one of the top fighters in all of mixed martial arts.

Mousasi (26-2-1) hasn’t lost in over three years and possesses well-rounded striking and submissions. He has the ability to put Sokoudjou in danger regardless of where the fight goes.

Sokoudjou’s best – and likely only – chance for victory will be an early knockout, but Mousasi has shown that he can take hard punches and dish out twice as many of his own.

While the light heavyweight bout will not be contested for Mousasi’s Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Championship, a Sokoudjou upset victory would immediately position him in line for a crack at the title.

The fighters will square off as part of the main card of Strikeforce: “Fedor vs Rogers,” which airs live on CBS on November 7th.
