In a bout with major title implications, former PRIDE standout Fabricio “Vai Cavalo” Werdum will meet Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva in a featured heavyweight fight on the main card of Strikeforce: “Fedor vs Rogers” on November 7th.
The event will air live on CBS and already features a Strikeforce Middleweight Championship bout between Jake Shields and Ronaldo “Jacaré” Souza and a heavyweight main event between “The Last Emperor” Fedor Emelianenko and Brett “The Grim” Rogers.
The bout, which is set to be one of the four televised fights on the card, is subject to approval from the Illinois Boxing Commission, as Silva was suspended for steroids by the California State Athletic Commission in July of 2008.
Silva will not be punished further for competing outside of California, as his one-year suspension has now expired, but he must receive approval in order to fight on the CBS card.
Silva (13-1-0) has been defeated just once in his career and has already battled tough competition. However, Werdum (12-4-1) is a big step up for Silva and he will need to be wary of Werdum’s mastery on the ground.
Werdum won his Strikeforce debut against Mike “MAK” Kyle at Strikeforce: “Carano vs Cyborg” in August and a victory over Silva could put him in line to face the winner of the Emelianenko vs Rogers bout to determine a challenger for the Strikeforce Heavyweight Championship.
