While an opponent is not yet known, new Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion Gegard “The Dreamcatcher” Mousasi will be competing on the televised portion of the upcoming November 7th Strikeforce: “Fedor vs Rogers” card on CBS.
Mousasi recently withdrew from the DREAM Super Hulk Tournament in Japan due to injury so that he could focus all of his efforts on defending his Strikeforce title, but his November 7th bout will be a non-title affair.
Mousasi (26-2-1) has won 13 straight fights since his 2006 submission loss to Akihiro Gono. Of his 26 wins, an incredible 24 have come by stoppage. He is one of the most well-rounded fighters in all of MMA, yet still possesses little fanfare.
Preferring to let his actions inside the ring or cage do the talking, Mousasi rarely comments on his career, but did recently make headlines for his provoking of former WEC Middleweight Champion Paulo Filho.
Speaking of Filho, he is among a short-list of names that has been thrown around as potential challengers for Mousasi. However, Filho has experienced a series of troubles over the past few years and does not seem to be the same dominant fighter that he was for quite some time in PRIDE.
Mousasi first won the title with a one-minute knockout of former champion Renato “Babalu” Sobral. He was expected to make his first title defence on the CBS card, but Strikeforce has since confirmed that Mousasi’s title will not be on the line.
Though he has expressed a desire to compete as a heavyweight in the future, as well as to challenge fighters inside the UFC, Mousasi remains committed to showcasing his talents in the Strikeforce light heavyweight division.
Regardless of his opponent, the CBS viewing audience will be assured an entertaining fight.
Strikeforce: “Fedor vs Rogers” takes place on November 7th from the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. It airs live on CBS.
