After injuring her shoulder during the recent Abu Dhabi World Submission Grappling Championships, where she placed third place in her division, Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos has confirmed that she will not be a part of the upcoming November 7th Strikeforce: “Fedor vs Rogers” event on CBS.
It is unclear whether a women’s bout will still be a part of the card, but it appears unlikely. Santos will aim to return to competition before the end of the year.
The injury will not require surgery, but it is serious enough that Santos will be unable to compete on the historic Strikeforce card.
She was rumoured to be defending her newly-won Strikeforce Women’s Lightweight Championship against either Dutch standout Marloes Coenen (19-3-0) or American Gladiators alum Erin Toughill (10-2-1).
While it would make sense to pit Coenen and Toughill against each other, in a rematch from their 2004 bout, it appears as though Strikeforce has opted not to replace the fight with another women’s bout.
The remainder of the event’s main card is expected to be announced shortly. It will air live on CBS on November 7th.
