UFC Fight Night 229: "Dawson vs Green" Live Play-By-Play & ResultsThe Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada tonight for UFC Fight Night 229: “Dawson vs Green.” The event was headlined by a lightweight showdown between Grant “KGD” Dawson, who had not lost since April 2016, and veteran contender Bobby “King” Green.

In the middleweight co-main event, Joseph “Bodybagz” Pyfer battled Abdul Razak “Judo Thunder” Alhassan. Elsewhere on the main card tonight, Alex “The Great White” Morono faced off against Joaquin “New Mansa” Buckley at welterweight. MMARising.com has live play-by-play for the main card.

 

Bobby “King” Green vs Grant “KGD” Dawson

Round 1:
Green dropped Dawson with his first left hand of the fight. Dawson was badly hurt and Green stood over him while landing more punches and hammerfists until the brief fight was stopped. Huge win for Green.

Winner: Bobby Green by TKO (Punches) at 0:33 of round one. He improves to 31-14-1, 1 NC.

 

Joseph “Bodybagz” Pyfer vs Abdul Razak “Judo Thunder” Alhassan

Round 1:
Pyfer immediately took Alhassan down and he locked on an arm-triangle choke as Alhassan got back to his feet. Alhassan escaped and the fighters separated from the clinch. Pyfer landed a one-two and slammed Alhassan down. Alhassan attempted a guillotine choke and used it to get back to his feet. Alhassan threw two body kicks and a calf kick, but Pyfer responded with a hard right cross. He followed with a jab, leg kick combo. Pyfer landed a flurry of punches and a knee to the body as Alhassan stood against the cage. 10-9 Pyfer.

Round 2:
Alhassan landed an overhand right and Pyfer secured a body lock. Alhassan broke free and he landed a strong calf kick. He landed another leg kick and Pyfer violently slammed him down. Pyfer locked on an arm-triangle choke and Alhassan appeared to tap out with his fist. Referee Mark Smith did not stop the fight, so Alhassan was choked unconscious.

Winner: Joseph Pyfer by Submission (Arm-Triangle Choke) at 2:05 of round two. He improves to 12-2-0.

 

Joaquin “New Mansa” Buckley vs Alex “The Great White” Morono

Round 1:
Morono countered Buckley’s forward rush with a right hook and Buckley circled away. Buckley stunned Morono with a one-two, but Morono recovered quickly and Buckley began to attack his body. Morono blocked a head kick and Buckley landed a right-left combo. He took Morono down and Morono attempted an armbar. Buckley stood up to escape and Morono followed. Buckley clinched and Morono jumped into a flying guillotine choke. Buckley slammed Morono down to the mat just before the bell. 10-9 Buckley.

Round 2:
Buckley was aggressive again in round two and Morono landed an early counter right hook. Buckley responded with a right hand of his own and he hurt Morono with a liver kick. Punches were exchanged and Buckley landed a right hook to Morono’s temple. Morono landed a combination, but Buckley scored with a lunging left hand and then tied him up in a clinch. 10-9 Buckley.

Round 3:
Buckley cracked Morono with three hard punches to begin the final round and Morono began to bleed from his mouth. Buckley mixed up his punches to the body and head, then followed with a liver kick. He flurried to Morono’s body and head again, but then threw an ill-advised spinning back kick and fell. Buckley was able to get back to his feet and he backed Morono up with two left hooks. A wobbly Morono attempted a takedown and Buckley easily avoided it. He landed an elbow and a left cross, then took top position when Morono pulled guard. Buckley landed punches and elbows from the top during the final minute. 10-8 Buckley.

Winner: Joaquin Buckley by Unanimous Decision (30-26, 30-27, 30-27) after three rounds. He improves to 17-6-0.

 

Drew Dober vs Ricky “The Gladiator” Glenn

Round 1:
Dober struck first with a calf kick and he went high with a head kick that was blocked. More leg kicks scored for Dober and he stunned Glenn with two uppercuts. Dober continued to land punches until Glenn pulled guard. He blatantly grabbed Dober’s glove, but was not punished and Dober stood up. Glenn followed and Dober dropped him with a left hook to the temple. He followed up with a series of punches and hammerfists on the ground as a dazed Glenn rolled to his side and the fight was stopped.

Winner: Drew Dober by TKO (Punches) at 2:36 of round one. He improves to 27-12-0, 1 NC.

 

Bill “Senor Perfecto” Algeo vs Alexander “The Great Ape” Hernandez

Round 1:
Hernandez grazed Algeo’s chin with a kick early in the fight and he followed with a right hook. Algeo threw a spinning back kick to the body and he knocked Hernandez off-balance with a side kick to the chest. Another spinning back kick scored for Algeo and he used more kicks to keep Hernandez at bay. Both men landed leg kicks in the final minute and Algeo finished with another kick to the body. 10-9 Algeo.

Round 2:
The second round began with Hernandez landing two right hooks and Algeo answered with a knee to the body. He resumed throwing body kicks and an overhand left. Time was called when Hernandez was poked in his left eye by Algeo’s thumb as he threw a punch. Action resumed after a lengthy break and Hernandez countered a body kick from Algeo with a quick one-two. A big right hook scored for Hernandez, but Algeo dropped him with a left hook and scored with two more left hands as Hernandez got to his feet. Following a brief clinch, Algeo landed a knee and two lunging left hooks. A left hand landed for Hernandez just before the bell. 10-9 Algeo.

Round 3:
Algeo landed a right hook and followed with a straight left hand in the final round. He used his jab to set up another left cross and then backed Hernandez up with a question mark kick and a side kick to the body. As Algeo landed a left hook, Hernandez cracked him with a counter right and Algeo circled to his right. He landed two more left hands and Hernandez responded with a body kick. An overhand right scored for Hernandez and he continued to press forward with punches. Both men landed right hooks late in the fight and Algeo took Hernandez down. Close final round. 10-9 Algeo by a slim margin.

Winner: Bill Algeo by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) after three rounds. He improves to 18-7-0.

 

Undercard Fights:

– Karolina Kowalkiewicz defeated Diana “The Warrior Princess” Belbita by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) after three rounds. She improves to 16-7-0 with the win.

– Joseph Nathan “Mayhem” Maness defeated Mateus “Bocão” Mendonça by TKO (Punches) at 4:40 of round one. He improves to 15-3-0 with the win.

– Crystal Vanessa “Lil’ Monster” Demopoulos defeated Kanako Murata by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. She improves to 10-5-0 with the win.

– Qileng “Mongolian Murderer” Aori defeated Johnny “Kid Kvenbo” Munoz Jr. by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 25-11-0 with the win.

– J.J. Aldrich defeated Montana De La Rosa by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) after three rounds. She improves to 13-6-0 with the win.
