Deep Jewels showcased its 14th all-female fight card on Thursday afternoon at Shinjuku FACE in Tokyo, Japan. Deep Jewels 14 was headlined by an atomweight contender’s bout between popular promotional veteran Saori “Shooting Star” Ishioka and highly-touted rising star Mina Kurobe.
In the Deep Jewels 14 co-feature, recent atomweight title challenger Emi Tomimatsu looked to get back on the winning track when she battled Tomo Maesawa. Former boxing champion Emiko “Fujin” Raika took on Jin Hee Gan at flyweight. MMARising.com has live play-by-play for the card.
Atomweight Bout – 3×5
Mina Kurobe vs Saori “Shooting Star” Ishioka
Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Masato Fukuda. The fight begins with an exchange of jabs and Ishioka misses with a right uppercut. Kurobe scores a brief takedown that leads to a scramble as both women battle back to their feet. Kurobe continues to work for takedowns and Ishioka immediately stands back up. She secures an osotogari throw and mounts Kurobe, which forces Kurobe to give up her back and allows Ishioka to finish the round with hammerfists.
Round 2:
Kurobe clinches and dirty boxes in round two until the referee calls for a break. Ishioka jabs and mixes in right hooks. Kurobe takes her down and works from the top in Ishioka’s guard. She stands up and passes Ishioka’s leg into half-guard. Ishioka scrambles up, but Kurobe takes her down once more and moves to mount. She lands hard punches until the bell.
Round 3:
The final round begins with Kurobe scoring a takedown, but Ishioka counters with a guillotine choke from her back and stands up. Kurobe shoots in again and Ishioka defends by pushing her head down. Kurobe finally finishes the takedown on her third try and Ishioka attempts an armbar from her back. Kurobe counters with hammerfists and moves to side control. Ishioka gives up her back and tries to roll through to flip Kurobe off before time expires.
Judges Kenichi Serizawa, Hidenobu Koike and Yoshinori Umeki all score the fight for the winner by Unanimous Decision, Kurobe.
Winner: Mina Kurobe by Unanimous Decision after three rounds. She improves to 9-2-0.
Atomweight Bout – 3×5
Tomo Maesawa vs Emi Tomimatsu
Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Yoshinori Umeki. Both women throw left jabs early on to establish distance. Maesawa circles and more jabs are exchanged. Tomimatsu sprawls out to defend against a takedown attempt and she lands a standing elbow after returning to her feet. The fighters clinch and battle for position against the ropes until time expires.
Round 2:
Maesawa continues to circle and throw left jabs in the second round, and Tomimatsu clinches after landing a right hook. Maesawa holds her against the ropes and works for a single-leg takedown. Tomimatsu sprawls and reverses the clinch in the corner. She lands hard knees, but Maesawa pushes her off and throws jabs. She secures a harai goshi throw and lands hammerfists to Tomimatsu’s face from side control. Tomimatsu scrambles back to her feet before the bell.
Round 3:
Maesawa scores a brief takedown early in round three, but Tomimatsu immediately battles back to a standing position. Maesawa takes her down again and Tomimatsu gives up her back while standing up. Maesawa locks on a rear-naked choke and Tomimatsu is forced to submit.
Winner: Tomo Maesawa by Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 1:24 of round three. She improves to 7-6-0.
Flyweight Bout – 2×5
Emiko “Fujin” Raika vs Jin Hee Gan
Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Masato Fukuda. Gan opens the action by throwing front kicks and left-right combos. She continues to mix things up with jabs, hooks and front kicks. Raika is unable to effectively counter at first, but she eventually dazes Gan with a hard right hand. More rights land for Raika and Gan is wobbled again. She recovers enough to throw front kicks, but Raika scores with a left hand late in the round.
Round 2:
The second round also begins with Gan landing front kicks and stiff jabs. Raika chases her down and throws left hooks to the body. Gan clinches, but Raika counters with a waist tackle and she takes Gan’s back. Raika attempts a no-hooks rear-naked choke, but Gan escapes and stands up. Raika takes her back down, but Gan reverses and bridges out, and the fight returns to the feet before the bell.
Judges Kenichi Serizawa, Hidenobu Koike and Yoshinori Umeki all score the fight for the winner by Unanimous Decision, Raika.
Winner: Emiko Raika by Unanimous Decision after two rounds. She improves to 3-4-0, 1 NC.
Strawweight Bout – 2×5
Ayaka Miura vs Sachiko Fujimori
Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Kenichi Serizawa. Miura clinches and lands knees while pulling Fujimori’s head down. She fails with a seoi nage throw attempt and gives up her back, which allows Fujimori to land several hammerfists before Miura gets back to her feet. The fighters clinch and Miura throws Fujimori down into the scarf hold position. She punches from the top and tries for an arm-triangle choke before the bell.
Round 2:
Miura opens round two with a right straight and throws Fujimori to the mat again. She punches from the top and traps Fujimori in a scarf hold armlock that finishes the fight.
Winner: Ayaka Miura by Submission (Scarf Hold Armlock) at 0:35 of round two. She improves to 3-1-0.
Atomweight Bout – 2×5
Satomi “Sarami” Takano vs Miyuki Furusawa
Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Yoshinori Umeki. The fight begins with Takano throwing right hooks and walking Furusawa down, which leads to a Takano single-leg takedown. She moves to half-guard and eventually passes to mount. From the top, Takano rains down hammerfists until Furusawa is forced to give up her back. Takano lands more hammerfists and transitions to an armbar that prompts referee Umeki to wave off the one-sided fight.
Winner: Satomi Takano by Technical Submission (Armbar) at 3:53 of round one. She improves to 8-8-0.
Flyweight Bout – 2×5
Nori Date vs Takako “BB Taka” Iizuka
Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Hidenobu Koike. Nori throws a side kick and a front kick to begin the fight. She follows with a right high kick and Iizuka crumples to the mat. Nori mounts her opponent and lands punches as Iizuka rolls over and turtles, and the brief fight is stopped.
Winner: Nori Date by TKO (Head Kick & Punches) at 0:48 of round one. She improves to 2-3-0.
Atomweight Bout – 2×5
Hana Date vs Sayuri Yamaguchi
Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Hidenobu Koike. Yamaguchi opens the fight with right hooks that force Hana to backpedal. The fighters clinch and Yamaguchi lands knees and short punches. She pushes Hana off and continues to alternate between right hooks and clinch knees. Yamaguchi tries for a double-leg takedown, but Hana sprawls and she scores with a jumping knee. Yamaguchi maintains a clinch, but she eats knee after knee during the next 40 seconds that leave her visibly hurting before the bell.
Round 2:
Yamaguchi clinches immediately in round two and Hana counters with a backfist. A wounded Yamaguchi falls through the ropes. The fight resumes and Hana secures an uchi mata throw into side control. She lands numerous hammerfists until Yamaguchi grabs her left leg and sweeps. She mounts Hana in the final seconds of the fight and drops punches from the top.
Judges Masato Fukuda, Yoshinori Umeki and Kenichi Serizawa all score the fight for the winner by Unanimous Decision, Hana.
Winner: Hana Date by Unanimous Decision after two rounds. She improves to 2-3-0.

“King” Reina Miura vs Eriko “Eri” Iwamoto
Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Kenichi Serizawa. Miura throws several right hooks while moving forward in the opening seconds. Iwamoto clinches, but Miura secures a harai goshi throw and she takes top position in side control. Miura quickly traps Iwamoto in an armbar and referee Serizawa waves off the fight.
Winner: Reina Miura by Technical Submission (Armbar) at 1:57 of round one. She improves to 1-0-0.
